Your new role:


The VP Commercial is responsible for overseeing and driving revenue for all Ad Sales, and Distribution / Affiliates-Sales related activities across German speaking territories. The role leads the Munich-based Ad Sales and Distribution teams and additionally, in time the Digital TV products team, driving revenue growth from both traditional and digital platforms. The VP will strategically steer the Ad Sales JV for Germany, as well as Ad Reps for digital and Austria and Switzerland. Key is to sustain and grow distribution of linear networks and Discovery+ and ensure alignment of commercial with broader business goals. This position will lead the teams of Inhouse AdSales, Distribution and later this year, Digital TV Products.

Your role accountabilities:

Ad Sales:

  • Lead the overall ad sales strategy across the German speaking markets in close partnership with Ad Sales JV and external sales reps, focusing on maximizing revenue from linear and digital assets

  • Strategically lead the JV and other third party reps across Germany, Austria, Switzerland to meet sales targets and continuously optimize ad sales revenue

  • Constantly assess market conditions and adapt strategies to meet changing market dynamics

  • Identify new sales opportunities – particularly for Discovery+ and in the DAI/DAS area and drive business development within the ad sales team

  • Contribute actively to the Cluster Leadership Team alongside peers from other markets

Distribution:

  • Develop and execute distribution strategies to maximize content reach and revenue across both traditional and digital platforms in the German speaking territories

  • Lead and drive negotiations for carriage agreements with MVPDs (Multichannel Video Programming Distributors), OTT platforms, and other key distribution partners

  • Identify and develop new distribution opportunities particularly for Discovery+, including strategic partnership enterprise deals, to enhance market penetration and revenue streams

  • Maintain strong, long-term relationships with key distribution partners to ensure alignment with company goals

  • Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key distribution partners, ensuring alignment with the company’s objectives and fostering sustainable growth

  • Collaborate closely with content, marketing, and finance teams to ensure distribution efforts are aligned with overall business goals and strategies

  • Continuously monitor industry trends, competitive dynamics and regulatory changes to inform strategic direction and decision-making

  • Lead, inspire, and mentor a high-performing distribution team, cultivating a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation

Digital TV products:

  • Project Management for all upcoming topics with digital advertising background, as well as 3rd party channels monetization

  • Platform- and Product-Owner for websites, CTV Apps and HbbTV

  • Close collaboration with local and international marketing and brand solutions teams to capture opportunities for digital advertising growth and monetization in D2C Streaming (e.g. Premium Sponsorship packages and Co-Marketing)

  • Liaise with programmatic and ad-tech partners to improve ad-buying options

  • Focused on digital product with a holistic view across revenue opportunities including mediation between business interests and development feasibilities

  • Partner with Ad Sales Representatives, Content Platforms, Development Agencies

  • Testing and Documentation of Product Changes in Device Lab in Munich Office

  • Live-Sport ads via DAI (dynamic ad insertion) and addressable ads (display ads)

  • Budget Tracking Digital GSA (OPEX and CAPEX)

Qualifications and experience:

  • Extensive experience in media sales, distribution, and business development, ideally within the entertainment & media industry

  • Proven track record in driving ad sales, distribution revenues, with strong negotiation skills

  • Ideally extensive experience in negotiating streaming partnerships

  • Established relationships with key agencies, media executives, and distribution partners in the German speaking region

  • In-depth understanding of the German-speaking market and ability to adapt strategies to local trends and demands

  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and motivating high-performing teams

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to evaluate and optimize sales and distribution performance

  • A goal-oriented, solutions-driven leader with a tireless drive to succeed and deliver results

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in both English and German
