Position Purpose
Reporting to the Lead Systems Analyst, the incumbent installs, configures and maintains the server infrastructure and systems to support and improve the efficiency of the organization’s operations. Ensures that the IT assets for its designated group or team are managed in a manner that maximizes the use of the University’s technical resources and ensures the stable, secure and consistent performance of the infrastructure.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- System installation and configuration: Installs and configures the servers and systems to ensure full and proper system functionality within the existing infrastructure. Gathers and evaluates client needs, analyzes systems requirements, evaluates vendor supplied applications, develops recommendations, and implements accordingly. Modifies the configuration of existing components, as necessary, to maintain or improve functionality and to facilitate the easy retrieval of information by others.
- Documentation: Prepares reports and policies to ensure reliable system documentation is available to assist others in making effective, informed decisions. Develops application documentation requirements for functions, modifications, backups and operating procedures. Develops documentation representing the current configuration of the server infrastructure of the systems for the designated faculty/service.
- Server maintenance: Monitors the performance of the server infrastructure to ensure they are at all times capable of supporting the business needs of the University. Conducts testing of new or customized application modules to ensure application meets specifications. Provides ongoing maintenance and operational support for applications.
What you will bring:
- University degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience supporting large scale server infrastructure systems in a multi-platform environment.
- In-depth knowledge of ITSM (IT service management) tools like TOPdesk, ServiceNow, BMC Remedy or Cherwell, including configuration and administration.
- Advanced knowledge of business systems integration, including identity management systems, Active Directory (AD), CMDB, SCCM, ERP systems, student information systems and related platforms.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft’s System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) and its main functions.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, including group administration and group strategy (GPOs).
- Knowledge of key data security and access management principles, including best practices in protection of information.
- Meaningful experience in deploying, administering and configuring print management service solutions such as PaperCut MF/NG, including with print servers and management of multifunction devices (MFDs).
- Experience in implementing ITIL best practices in a business.
- Experience in script development and process automatization, including use of various coding languages (PowerShell an asset).
- Experience in analyzing, modelling and implementing business processes, including service catalogue design and evolution.
- Experience in producing and analyzing in-depth reports using visualization and business intelligence tools like Power BI or equivalents.
- Ability to design and maintain API integrations and model data, particularly in a CMDB environment.
- Analytical skills to diagnose and repair server infrastructure and enterprise application problems.
- Ability to set priorities for own tasks and deliver high-quality results within required deadlines.
- Ability to keep abreast of emerging technologies.
- Ability to foster good professional relationships with partners.
- Ability to share knowledge and documentation, and to lead workshops.
- Ability to flourish in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Bilingualism — English/French (spoken and written).
