Course Description:

Built around Ottawa-Gatineau’ theatre season, this introductory course aims to cultivate audience members’ curiosity and train their critical eye by introducing them to the analysis of live performance as well as practical and theoretical vocabularies specific to the discipline. Scheduled theatre outings are obligatory.

Requirements:

Ph.D. or Ph.D ABD in theater studies, or in a related field with a thesis in theater or performance studies.
Knowledge of contemporary theatre theory and performance analysis.
Pedagogical experience at the university level.
Record of research or scholarly work on theatre history, aesthetics, or critical approaches to performance.
Awareness of major current trends in Canadian and international theatre.
