$75,007.00 - $93,759.00Position Purpose
Under the Director, Faculty Relations, the incumbent is a member of the Faculty Relations team and plays a key role in supporting effective administration and coordination of labour relations by supporting grievance administration, collective bargaining, and labour-management processes in a complex, highly unionized environment. The incumbent has regular contact and works with various stakeholders, including all administrative levels at the University and union representatives, ensuring accuracy, procedural integrity and timely coordination while fostering a positive and collaborative labour relations climate.
Specific Accountabilities
Communications and Liaison:
- Act as a primary point of contact for union (APUO, APTPUO and CUPE2626) and management representatives ensuring proper administration and application of collective agreements and timely and accurate flow of information.
- Draft clear and comprehensive communication materials for distribution to union representatives and internal stakeholders.
Process management:
- Administer labour relations processes including grievances, arbitrations, labour-management committee and collective bargaining activities.
- Collect data and generate regular and ad hoc reports as required by collective agreements and to support effective labour relation planning and processes.
- Support the Faculty Relations team with grievance handling and arbitration, including tracking timelines, scheduling meetings, assembling information, preparing case files, and drafting responses.
- Support the Faculty Relations team with collective bargaining activities by organizing proposals, preparing spreadsheets, maintaining notes and coordinating with management teams.
Logistical support:
- Create, organize and maintain labour relations files to ensure accurate and confidential document retention.
- Schedule, coordinate and support meetings, such as negotiation sessions, labour-management committees and grievance hearings.
Advisory services:
- Effectively manage correspondence received through general inboxes (and other sources) by making initial assessments on matters, delegating or referring to appropriate team member or stakeholder or, as deemed appropriate, draft responses to inquiries to address issues on behalf of Faculty Relations.
- Collaborate with members of the Faculty Relations and Human Resources teams in providing strategic and operational support to clients.
Analysis:
- Research and analyze comparative human resources practices, comparative data on working conditions, compensation practices, jurisprudence, legislative requirements and updates and provincial labour relations trends to support the negotiations process at the University.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Undergraduate degree specializing in Human Resources, Labour Relations and/or a related field of study, or a combination of relevant and related education and experience
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in human resources, legal administration, or program administration, preferably within a unionized environment
- Experience working in a diverse and decentralized organization, ideally in the public sector
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of labour relations context, collective bargaining, collective agreements, applicable legislation and regulations pertaining to labour relations
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and be discreet in managing highly sensitive information
- Demonstrated ability to deal with conflict and adversarial situations in a professional and tactful manner
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work effectively, organize a high volume of work and ensure compliance and completion of assigned tasks
- Demonstrated decision-making skills and ability to solve issues involving a high degree of detail;
- Demonstrated professionalism when working with internal and external clients and stakeholders
- Proven ability to critically assess effectiveness of work processes and tools
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous quality improvement
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a team member committed to collaboration
- Strong organizational, administrative, customer service, orientation, and leadership skills.
