Course Description:

Lead the integrated English language skills development component of the Teaching, Immersion & English Refinement (TIER) Program for professors from the Universidad Autónoma de Bucaramanga (UNAB), delivered at the University of Ottawa's Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute (OLBI). This four-week program supports university professors at the B1–B2 level in strengthening their overall English proficiency through meaningful, task-based communication. The instructor will design and deliver sessions grounded in a communicative, task-based approach that prioritizes active language use in academic, professional, and real-world contexts. Sessions will integrate speaking, listening, reading, and writing holistically, with attention to vocabulary development, pronunciation, fluency, and accuracy. Typical activities include guided discussions, collaborative problem-solving, short presentations, and project-based tasks reflecting authentic academic and everyday communication. The role requires close collaboration with the EMI instructor delivering the morning academic component on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to ensure curriculum coherence and pedagogical alignment. Responsibilities include preparing and facilitating lessons, creating and evaluating assignments, and providing constructive feedback to participants.

Master's degree in second language teaching, TESL or related discipline. Two years of experience teaching ESL at the college/university level. Previous experience teaching this course or an equivalent ESL course. Experience with team-teaching. TESL Certification or equivalent.
