Position purpose:
Provide advanced athletic therapy services and integrated coordination for varsity programs to ensure consistent standards of care, operational continuity, and effective injury management that support athlete safety and performance across teams.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
Coordinate multi-site Sport Medicine Clinic operations and acts as the designated clinical and operation lead in the absence of the Head Athletic Therapist (HAT) to deliver efficient, financially responsible and standards-compliant care for student-athletes.
Assist the HAT with the supervision and evaluation of student trainers working with assigned teams to ensure service quality and adherence to established protocols.
Lead medical support for assigned collision sport, including onsite emergency care coverage as the Certified Athletic Therapist and medical emergency protocols, collect pre-participation medical information and coordinate pre-season physical evaluations to ensure athlete health and readiness for training and competition.
Maintain and communicate varsity health and safety protocols - including infectious disease control, disposal of biohazards and catastrophic injury - and establish emergency action plans (EAP) for hosted events, to promote consistent compliance and preparedness.
Provide athletic therapy services, including manual therapy, modality treatment techniques, and exercise prescription to optimize injury recovery timelines and support peak performance of varsity student-athletes, both on campus and when travelling with athletes.
Establish and sustain collaborative relationships with external health professionals and Integrated Support Team (IST) to ensure coordinated care pathways and timely referrals for student-athletes.
Collect analyze and interpret injury and clinic statistics for assigned teams to inform coaches on trends and recommend interventions and strategies to reduce injury and maximize performance.
Support the delivery of annual Varsity Athletics student-athlete education initiatives, including orientation and drug free sport training seminar to promote awareness of expectations and reinforce a culture of safe sport.
Provide athletic therapy coverage at various home and away events to ensure consistent access to qualified medical support.
Facilitate weekly in season meetings with assigned varsity teams and staff to ensure appropriate communication regarding injury reviews and student-athlete participation.
Leads on-going inventory of first-aid and clinic supplies.
Co-ordinates monthly IST meetings and the bi-annual sports medicine team meetings.
What you will bring:
Relevant post-secondary degree or equivalent in an accredited program specializing in Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology or related field
Certified Athletic Therapist credentials through the Canadian Athletic Therapist’s Association (CATA) or Sports Physiotherapist Certified Level 2
Sports First Responder or EMR certification
3 years of clinical and field experience post-certification (collision sport preferred).
Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written)
Strong interpersonal skills to work with Coaches and allied health professionals
Ability to work autonomously and with other in an environment that requires quick decisions that protect the safety and well-being of student-athletes
Experience in overall program management within an academic and multi-sport environment
Experience in managing and supervising student staff
Ability to stand for extended periods, respond quickly to on-field injuries and assist with the removal of injured athletes
Strong organizational capabilities
Ability to share the values that are consistent with the high standards of the University of Ottawa and its mission to provide quality education
Availability to work outside of regular business hours such as evenings and weekends on a regular basis
Availability to travel on a regular basis to attend games
