Position Purpose
Reporting to the Lead Technical Designer, the incumbent develops new or enhances existing and off-the-shelf computer applications based on software requirements. Assigned small projects of limited duration or may participate in a designated portion of a larger project under supervision. Focused on meeting user needs and improving the efficiency of the University’s operations through system and software solutions.
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Analysis: Evaluates client’s business and functional requirements to fully understand their needs. Focuses on solutions to improve systems and automation.
- Design: Designs, plans and coordinates effective software using appropriate tools and operating systems facilitating the function of the various departments, to increase their efficiency and productivity, and to reduce costs.
- Development, Testing and Documentation: Develops effective program code, tests and provides documentation for new releases or application upgrades. Translates specifications document into effective program code. Assists in the provision of user documentation.
- Deployment: Participates in the installation of new software in alignment with established procedures and processes, and the integration the final product to existing software.
What you will bring:
- College degree in Computer Programming or university degree in Computer Science or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 0-3 years of experience in the development and implementation of system or software programs.
- Basic programming experience in JavaScript, Python, or similar languages, with a strong willingness to learn and further develop skills.
- Familiarity with QA concepts focusing on the test automation and performance frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, JMeter etc.).
- Basic understanding of API testing and willingness to learn tools such as Postman, Bruno, or similar.
- Exposure to databases or coursework in SQL and data validation techniques.
- Knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process.
- Understanding of Agile development principles and interest in working in an Agile team environment.
- Knowledge of University policies, guidelines and standards regarding system and software development and deployment.
- Knowledge of and experience with programming tools, languages, techniques and industry standards and best practices.
- Experience in troubleshooting and repairing programs.
- Analytical skills to diagnose debug and repair programming issues.
- Ability to proactively keep abreast of new/emerging technologies.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to users.
- Bilingualism English and French (spoken and written).
