Un doctorat en études religieuses, en philosophie ou dans un domaine connexe (comme les études asiatiques ou la littérature comparée), avec une expertise démontrée dans les traditions contemplatives ou méditatives. Les candidats doivent connaître les principales sources philosophiques et religieuses portant sur la méditation, y compris celles issues des traditions bouddhiste, taoïste, hindoue, juive, chrétienne et des traditions occidentales classiques. Les candidats devraient idéalement avoir de l’expérience dans l’animation ou la facilitation de séances de méditation en milieu éducatif, et être en mesure d’engager les étudiants tant avec des textes théoriques qu’à travers un apprentissage expérientiel. Une expérience préalable de l’enseignement universitaire est requise, idéalement dans des cours liés à l’éthique ou à la pratique contemplative.
