Practical skills training in written advocacy, including preparation of factums or other written submissions, through participation in an intellectual property moot competition. Intellectual Property Advocacy is an experiential learning opportunity that gives students the practical skills and experiences they need to become successful intellectual property advocates—especially in administrative, trial or appellate courtrooms, but also in national legislative processes, international lawmaking forums, and even media or other public debates.

Requirements:

Common Law Section is seeking candidates who are leaders in the legal profession. An LL.B., J.D., or equivalent is required for this position. Membership in the Law Society of Ontario (or equivalent) in good standing is also required. The successful candidate will have significant expertise and experience in intellectual property and written advocacy. Prior teaching experience will be considered an asset.

The Common Law Section reserves the right to select a candidate who does not fully meet each of these requirements, where the candidate’s selection would be beneficial to the program, the course, the students or for a related reason.

This course is offered during the January intensive session and not in the winter session. Candidates must be able to teach each day of the January term. Please be sure to check the schedule for the term on the Common Law Section website.
