Nature of Work:

The successful candidate will assist with a range of research and projects in areas of international law. Duties may span the scholarly spectrum and can include: analysis and assistance in publications for the Canadian Yearbook of International Law, including cite-checking, drafting, social media promotion, and event planning.

Additional duties include assisting in research and course preparation for an upper-year international law course, which may involve conducting environmental scans and literature reviews, creating surveys, collecting, managing, and analyzing data, and co-writing a range of documents. Students will also be encouraged and supported to conduct their own original research and build academic skills such as research methods and theory building. Some administrative duties will be required, providing opportunities to build highly transferable professional skills like leadership, teamwork, project management, and community engagement.

Minimum Qualifications:

GPA of 6.5 or higher
Superior writing and research skills
Ability to read and write fluently in English and French
Strong oral communication skills
Ability to read and comprehend legal and complex policy language in both official languages
Ability to work independently and show initiative
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively High standard of professionalism

Preference will be given to a candidate with demonstrated:

Prior knowledge and experience in the field of international law;

Experience drafting policy, media, and/or professional communications.
