Position purpose:

Reporting to Director, Financial Planning and Reporting, plans, manages and controls operations related to financial administration of University research, trust and endowed funds.

Manages Research, Trust and Endowment section operations, to offer high-quality service to University researchers and external funders. Ensures that the University adheres to its research excellence strategic priorities.

Makes recommendations on steps to take regarding complex or high-risk files, to ensure sound fund management and reduce financial risk for the University.

Trains, supervises and supports a team of three senior financial analysts and six financial analysts.

  • We work in a hybrid environment and are on site three days per week.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Manages the Research, Trust and Endowment section: develops direction and work plans, distributes tasks, manages a team, contributes to the team’s professional development and ensures effective computerized management systems and processes.
  • Plans, organizes and controls production of Research, Trust and Endowment section annual reports, ensuring they comply with granting and donor organization requirements, policies and regulations.
  • Develops and implements strategies, tools and financial management and control procedures, to ensure close management of financial activities related to University research. Produces reports on the effectiveness of these strategies, tools and procedures.
  • Assists the many auditors designated by external research organizations and provides them with the analyses, explanations and supporting documentation required.
  • Ensures good communication between Financial Resources and the entire University community (faculties, services and researchers), so that management of Research, Trust and Endowment section activities is consistent and rigorous.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s in accounting, business administration or a related field, preferably combined with accounting certification (CPA)
  • Five years’ managerial experience in the area of finance
  • Knowledge of generally recognized accounting principles and audit file documentation
  • Experience interpreting and applying complex regulations and procedures
  • Experience in short-, medium- and long-term strategic planning
  • Strong leadership skills, excellent judgment and proven ability to work under pressure and meet firm deadlines
  • Experience with computerized financial systems and software such as spreadsheets, Windows, word processors and email
  • Commitment to excellent customer service
  • Experience in human resources, team and conflict management
  • Ability to develop and implement new work methods, with analytical skills and ability to resolve complex problems
  • Knowledge and experience regarding budget forecasting
  • Bilingualism — English and French (spoken and written)
