Responsibilities: The University of Ottawa Library is looking for a service-oriented individual with an innovative spirit to fill the position of Student Success Librarian (replacement). The ideal candidate is a creative person who works well with colleagues, likes to take on challenges and easily adapts to change.

Located at the heart of Canada’s capital on the unceded territory of Anishinàbe-Algonquin people, it contributes significantly to the economy, culture and quality of life of Canada's Capital.

Duties:

With other members of the Learning and Student Success team, the Student Success Librarian shapes a program that supports the development of a range of literacy skills, including information, media, visual, digital and statistical literacy, recognized to be foundational in modern society. The Student Success Librarian designs and delivers learning resources, tools and activities that support the development of these skills by users at any level of study and from any disciplinary field.

The Student Success Librarian participates in and supports the ongoing assessment of online and in-person instruction practices. In collaboration with other library divisions, the librarian provides instructional design support and may jointly offer instruction in the classroom. This position will engage in partnerships with other campus units supporting teaching and learning initiatives, such as the Teaching and Learning Support Service, the Student Academic Support Service; student associations, and use these partnerships to encourage and support student’s achievement and lifelong learning.

The Librarian actively participates in and/or leads Library collaborative activities. The incumbent is a participative member of an evolving organization that emphasizes service quality, innovation, outreach, and partnership within the Library, across campus, and beyond.

Terms: 8 months (From September 1st, 2024 to April 30th, 2025).

Wage: Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The anticipated hiring range for this position would normally be:

- For rank I: (minimum $69,576 – maximum $116,580);

- For Rank II: (minimum $82,449 – maximum $132,649);

(Based on 2021-24 APUO Collective Agreement; subject to change)

Skills requirements:

Education: A Master's degree in Library and Information Studies (MIS; MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent.

Work experience:

• At least 2 years of professional experience, or fewer if the experience is particularly pertinent to the position.
• Effective oral and written communication skills in both French and English.
• Experience in developing, implementing and assessing information literacy instruction programs online and in-person.
• Familiarity with relevant literacy frameworks or approaches, such as the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education.
• Knowledge of best practices and current trends in supporting students in acquiring a set of integrated literacy skills essential to student success and development.
• Ability to work in a collaborative, team-based environment.
• Adaptable, flexible, and able to adjust to a changing environment.
• Problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Capacity to identify areas of opportunity and to develop and implement innovative solutions to respond to them.
