Position Purpose
Provides high technical and/or level administrative support to scientists, engineers and line operations, as well as maintenance in specialty areas including the operation, maintenance, diagnosis and repair of specialized research equipment or computational facilities. Assists in diagnosing and correcting technical problems.
In this role your responsibilities will be:
Develops new specialized techniques, test procedures and standards under general supervision of professional staff. Monitors safety and provides guidance on safe use of equipment.
Assists professional staff in diagnosing causes of system, equipment or material failure using advanced testing methods and equipment.
Performs background research and literature searches as needed, evaluates results and formulates recommendations as needed. Researches and determines whether new technology and systems can be applied to work.
Provides information and options for product or process modification to improve system performance or to better meet customer and other users’ needs.
Researches, designs and analyzes the results of new experiments. Selects and uses appropriate procedures, equipment and standards to produce required data; assists in analysis and interpretation.
Sets up, tests and calibrates testing equipment.
Assists in managing the daily operations and finances of a laboratory or technical operation for a department, including responsibility for budget, large purchase recommendations, inventory, forecasting and maintenance of financial reports, and staff administration.
Carries out other related duties as required in keeping with the qualifications and requirements of the position.
What you will bring:
University degree in a relevant discipline, or technical program ideally related to pathology and a minimum four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience such as college diploma and at least 1-2 years of relevant experience preferably in a research or histology laboratory.
Graduate degree (in a health sciences related field) for some positions, is an asset
Knowledge of Histology techniques, including sectioning, staining and immunohistochemistry is an asset.
