The Advisor Oversight Consultant partners closely with agencies to strengthen advisor risk management practices by embedding effective controls into daily operations, clarifying regulatory expectations, and promoting a strong, proactive risk culture across Retail Sales and Service. The role interprets regulatory and compliance requirements, identifies gaps and emerging trends through collaboration with Data & Analytics, and recommends targeted control enhancements that mitigate market conduct risks. The Consultant conducts quality assurance reviews, validates remediation activities, and delivers analytical reporting that helps agencies understand their risk drivers and take ownership of their compliance performance. Additionally, the role communicates regulatory updates, develops risk‑awareness materials, and maintains First Line of Defense policies and procedures to support continuous improvement in advisor risk management.
How you will create impact:
- Support advisors in understanding their risk responsibilities and the need to embed controls into operations.
- Provide control improvement recommendations to Advisors as a result of Advisor Oversight or compliance reviews
- Interpret and monitor regulatory requirements and standards and provide proactive compliance guidance.
- Collaborate with Data and Analytics teams to identify control gaps and recommend proactive risk solutions.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews and testing of advisor processes and risk controls.
- Track previous remediation activities and escalate recurring issues
- Communicate regulatory updates and best practices to advisors.
- Create, implement, and update First line of Defense compliance policies, procedures, and controls.
- Analyze advisor data and compliance performance.
- Collaborate with Data and Analytics teams to monitor emerging risk indicators.
- Deliver reporting to highlight trends in advisor compliance status and risk factors.
- Develop, design, and deliver compliance and risk awareness materials.
To join our team:
- You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, or Law.
- Three to five years of Life Insurance and/or Compliance industry experience.
- Understanding of advisor operations and risk responsibilities.
- Awareness of industry compliance structures, standards and requirements.
- Ability to embed risk awareness and compliance into business processes.
- Familiarity with organizational policies and procedures for risk management.
- Direct regulatory experience and/or a deep understanding of the insurance industry with an emphasis on market conduct and compliance with laws and regulations.
How you will succeed:
- Ability to critically analyze complex compliance and risk scenarios to develop solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication to explain regulatory requirements and risk expectations clearly to advisors.
- Ability to interpret and compile analytics, identify trends, and present actionable insights and recommendations.
- Research experience in legislative and regulatory matters, and policy issues.
- Working understanding of enterprise risk principles and control design.
- Knowledge of market conduct regulations, licensing requirements, and evolving legal and regulatory landscape of the wealth and insurance industry.

Salary information
Expected salary/hourly range $72,847 - $121,411 (min-max, full range)
Salary placement
The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.
Incentive/Variable pay
Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
