Reporting to the Senior Manager, Actuarial Insights – Life, as an Actuarial Associate you will be responsible for the development of sophisticated models to investigate key business issues and preparing compelling action plans that support management decisions around profitability and capital efficiency. Co-operators’ Actuarial Insights – Life team enhances our organization’s success by providing comprehensive insights regarding the profitability of our Life Operations portfolio and presenting proactive business strategies to optimize the portfolio’s return on capital.

This is a role for an Actuarial Associate on the Actuarial Insights – Life team in the Finance department. It is an individual contributor role in the Actuarial Student Program. The Actuarial Student Program looks to develop actuaries within the company by exposing them to the different actuarial functions of the company while at the same time providing support for actuarial exams.

How you will create impact:

  • Provide recommendations for strategic management of financial resources to maximize efficiency, profitability, and growth by improving liquidity, reducing costs, and ensuring capital is used for the highest return activities.
  • Analyze profitability of life products under IFRS 17 accounting rules.
  • Prepare and analyze regular management information, determine conclusions and strategies moving forward, as well as communicate results.
  • Attend meetings to present results and increase profile within the company.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Create new ideas and department innovations using experience gained from multiple actuarial areas.
  • Uphold professional ethics, values, policies and procedures that support the company’s and profession’s standards.

To join our team:

  • You have a ACIA designation.
  • 3+ years of knowledge and experience in life insurance. Experience in individual insurance pricing is an asset.
  • IFRS17 experience is an asset.
  • Strong computing skills including experience with GGY Axis, Microsoft Office and Excel in particular.
  • Strong actuarial modeling experience.

Expected salary range $83,774 - $133,774+

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.​​

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
