The Subrogation Claims Representative II manages a significant source of financial recovery for the organization by reviewing, adjudicating and collecting on complex subrogation property matters with third parties or third-party insurers.

How you will create impact:

  • Investigate, reserve adequately and negotiate settlements with third parties/third party insurers on subrogation matters.

  • Contribute to a client service culture by embedding client engagement philosophies into daily work and implementing innovative, client-centric decision making, to be the industry leader in client engagement.

  • Resolve subrogation related disputes with third parties/third party insurers, including recommending arbitration when required.

  • Direct lawyers in civil actions and participate in discovery and settlement meetings in court.

  • Conduct small claims court matters, including drafting all pleadings, defenses, motions and affidavits for small claims court, preparing and documenting all evidence for court proceedings, attending pre-trials, assessment hearings, conducting trials, interview clients, third parties and witnesses and prepare clients and witnesses for trial in small claims court.

  • Enforce judgments (garnishments, issuing writs, debtor examinations, license suspensions) and attend and participate in bankruptcy hearings to protect our judgments.

  • Process subrogation receipts on claims system and appropriate accounting systems.

  • Provide claims support to the Claims Operations as determined by the claims leadership. This could be, but not limited to, outstanding claims, FNOL/Inbound phone, field claims, inspections, etc.

To join our team:

  • Three (3) years successful related claims handling experience or related business experience.

  • Working towards Chartered Insurance Professionals (CIP) designation.

  • Advanced knowledge of policy wordings, legislation, regulations and construction practices.

  • Provincial adjuster license(s) is required dependent on the province of work.

  • University/College Degree.

  • Proficiency in English is essential to the main duties in this role, including servicing and communicating primarily with majority non-francophone clients, groups, teams. Drafting complex English documents and preparing daily reports for anglophone leaders. The essential non-French duties are not assignable to adjacent or other team members.

  • You are required have your own vehicle, valid driver’s license and insurance.

  • Strict confidentiality with respect to client’s medical history, financial status and other personal information.

  • Potential exposure to conditions that require health and safety protection, such as chemicals, noise, dust and debris.

  • This role involves direct contact with clients and/or service providers in their environment.

  • You will be subject to a Criminal Record and Consumer History background check as a condition of employment, in the event you are the successful candidate.

Salary information

Expected Salary range : $60,574.00 to $100,956.00 CAD

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
