Reporting into AVP, FP&A(Financial Planning and Analysis), with a dotted-line relationship to the Appointed Actuary. Develop & communicate proactive business actions, in collaboration with peers, to optimize return on capital for Life Operations. Provide comprehensive insights regarding profitability and valuation of CLIC’s products and suggest actionable levers to improve our overall profitability. Develop tools and analysis to ensure key business issues regarding the health of the portfolio are investigated and explainable to support decisions. Support Finance, Valuation and Pricing and act as a catalyst to ensure insights are acted upon.

How you will create impact:

  • Build for the future and provide people leadership that fosters accountability; oversee direct reports' development plans
  • Contribute to developing & executing strategies to attract, mobilize and retain a highly diverse, qualified and engaged team to fulfill current and future business needs
  • Coordinating with the Actuarial Projections and Finance Decision Support Teams, support the creation of robust CLIC plans that factor capital efficiency as well as broader metrics to deliver value to our member-owners.
  • Ensure that business plans are monitored and highlight high variations of actual vs plan.
  • Monitors pricing expectations and valuation assumptions for alignment, and where a misalignment is expected, develop a plan to ensure management’s expectations for the business are met.
  • Consults on specific business issues, working with cross-functional stakeholders to develop and implement solutions
  • Monitors and evaluates the drivers of the company’s capital position
  • Provides recommendations for strategic management of financial resources to maximize efficiency, profitability, and growth by improving liquidity, reducing costs, and ensuring capital is used for the highest return activities.

To join our team:

  • You have 3-5 years of Actuarial experience.
  • You have an Actuarial designation, or a graduate degree is an asset.
  • You have knowledge of CIA standards of practice, accepted actuarial practice, and actuarial valuation methods and principles for life insurance, particularly IFRS 17
  • You have knowledge of life insurance financial reporting standards, taxation, and the regulatory environment
  • You have knowledge of regulatory capital frameworks (LICAT)
  • You have insurance product knowledge for the company and the industry knowledge.
  • You have strong actuarial modeling expertise. Experience with Moody’s Axis and RiskIntegrity software is an asset
  • You have expert knowledge in Actuarial concepts: capital requirements & solvency ratio (LICAT), valuation, IFRS 17 measurement approaches (PAA, VFA, GMM)

Salary information​
“Expected salary range $114,021 - $164,021+
Salary placement​
The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.
Incentive/Variable pay ​
Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
