Job Description:

The Community Business Development Officer III is an external sales and customer advocacy role that focuses on developing a strong brand position for an assigned geography and targeted Customer community by identifying and winning business opportunities in Commercial Banking, Small Business Retail and Wealth. The job will meet or exceed business targets through developing and deepening customer relationships and maximizing market share that requires the incumbent to leverage internal and external networks. This job will manage the market through involvement in the community to drive presence and Brand awareness of TDs strategy in the targeted community focus area.

Depth & Scope:

  • Works independently to develop new business in the targeted community demographic
  • Meets with moderate and large complex prospects in the targeted demographic
  • Develops & maintains key relationships with targeted community or segment centers of influence within the targeted demographic
  • Grows TD's Retail, Wealth and Commercial & Small Business Banking volumes from the targeted customer community
  • Directs the delivery of services to assure consistency of approach and achievement of business objectives and sales goals
  • Increases knowledge and awareness of target demographic business opportunities within the segments
  • Provides sales support to partners to assist with the targeted community demographic portfolio growth
  • May assist in gathering related financial and general business information, performs financial analyses needed to make credit decisions, participates in team credit decisions and communicates with prospects and Customers to close sales
  • Prepares basic management reports summarizing loan activity
  • Meets regularly with internal and external referral sources to establish business relationships and develops network of referral sources for new business in the targeted community demographic
  • May collect necessary data and information to begin financial analysis
  • May communicate credit decisions to prospects and Customers as directed in partnership with the internal business segment on product or services being offered
  • Assists in the development of less experienced development officers
  • Makes prospect and Customer calls to sell commercial services and cross sell other Company products and services
  • Manages assigned targeted community relationships in coordination with other appropriate internal personnel
  • Supports the growth goals (loans, deposits, fees) of the team through development of new Customers in the targeted community demographic and cross selling existing Customers in the demographic


Education & Experience:

  • 4 year degree or equivalent experience required
  • 10+ years related experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience across a number of business lines including Business Banking, Retail, & Wealth
  • Understanding of business development techniques and credit decisions process
  • Experience and demonstrated ability in sales and relationship management
  • Demonstrates business development track record
  • Strong market presence with wide network of outside referral sources for new business
  • Refined influence and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrates PC skills
  • Member in targeted demographic civic and professional organizations required
  • Understanding of, and ability to make an impact on the targeted demographic community
  • Strong strategic focus and ability to execute across multiple stakeholders
  • Must be a highly motivated self-starter and have the ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Strong presentation skills in varied content & audiences
