Global Payment and Deposit Solutions (GPDS) builds and transforms the operating model and infrastructure capabilities that support the Payments and Deposit Services of TD Securities. We are responsible for the delivery of TD's Payment Modernization Program including regulatory, cybersecurity, payment products, SWIFT, and Correspondent Banking Services related projects for TD's global footprint. Our projects are designed to deliver the future of payments, including innovative business services, data models, and best in class technology infrastructures that support over $5 Trillion (and rapidly growing) worth of payments daily.

Position Overview:

This position is for a Business Architect in our Payment and Deposits Solutions team and requires subject matter expertise in Payment & Deposits product domains and substantial knowledge in product capability ownership. The candidate will be responsible for design of payment and deposits solutions across the enterprise. This will be accomplished by integrating knowledge of how Payments and Deposits functions deliver outcomes for multiple business areas at leading financial institutions. The role involves interpreting business challenges, leading cross-functional projects, and developing new solutions to meet our future client needs.

Job / Role Responsibilities:

Strategic Architecture & Design

  • Define and maintain the enterprise payments architecture roadmap to support corporate banking and treasury services.
  • Align payments capabilities (ACH, wires, RTP, SWIFT, card rails, and cross-border) with overall business strategy and client needs.
  • Translate business objectives into target-state architectures, ensuring scalability, resiliency, and compliance.
  • Partner with product management to design solutions that enable new payment services, revenue models, and customer experiences.
  • Assess current-state payments processes, systems, and customer journeys to identify gaps and optimization opportunities.
  • Develop future-state models (capabilities, data flows, process maps) that enable seamless end-to-end payments execution.
  • Ensure alignment of payments processes with ISO 20022 standards, regulatory mandates, and clearing/settlement requirements.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to design integration patterns for core banking, ERP, treasury management, fraud/risk, and liquidity platforms.
  • Drive adoption of modern APIs, microservices, and cloud-based payments solutions.
  • Define architectural guardrails to ensure system interoperability, real-time data availability, and operational resilience.
  • Continuously monitor industry advancements (blockchain, CBDCs, AI in fraud prevention) to assess impact on corporate payments.
  • Advise senior leadership on emerging payments trends (real-time payments, open banking, digital currencies).

Modern Way of Working:

  • Employ Agile, Product Owner mindset, Shift Left testing methodologies and best practices utilizing collaborative tools like Jira, JTMF, and Confluence to ensure projects progress in the right direction.
  • Keep current on emerging trends, tools, and techniques to improve product development and delivery, including best practices from Design Thinking and Lean Startup methodologies.
  • Contribute to a culture of innovation, actively seeking ways to enhance capability and performance efficiency.

People Management:

  • Lead and manage team members, overseeing activities and deliverables aligned with diverse business clients and segments.

Stakeholder Management:

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with internal and external partners, acting as an ambassador for the business area and the bank.
  • Effectively engage and update stakeholders, ensuring understanding of project timelines and strategic alignment with senior management.
  • Influence senior stakeholders and guide team members in the area of expertise, managing expectations and collaborating across teams to achieve business objectives.
  • Compile and communicate performance metrics to relevant stakeholders.

Communication & Facilitation:

  • Convey complex concepts clearly, transforming information into compelling business narratives.
  • Effectively communicate product changes and backlog priorities to stakeholders.

Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving:

  • Utilize critical thinking and conflict resolution skills to address complex challenges.
  • Recommend best practices for improving products, processes, or services.
  • Solve intricate problems and develop innovative solutions through sophisticated analytical thinking.

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree required.
  • 7+ years relevant experience.
  • 3+ years in Project Management, Product Owner, Testing Practices, and/or Agile delivery experience.
  • Certifications such as PMP, Agile Certified Practitioner, or Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) are assets.

Payment Domain Knowledge:

  • Substantial knowledge of SWIFT messages, ISO20022, MX and MT formats.
  • Deep understanding of payment systems and methods such as Canada Lynx, US CHIPS, and FedWire, etc.
  • Knowledge of emerging payment rails like Instant Payments
  • Familiarity with regulatory reporting such as EFTR Fintrac, sanction screening, fraud detection, anti-money laundering (AML), compliance reporting.
  • Understanding of deposit sub-ledger capabilities (like account management, transaction posting, multi-currency handling, interest calculations, liquidity management, controls, and reporting) to drive/ support deposits transformation, an asset.
  • Familiarity with various accounts (Nostro, Vostro, Corporate Customer), and integration of payments services with correspondent account processing, an asset.
  • Understanding of the interaction between payments and deposits operating models and how these serve client needs and use cases.
  • Experience with payment data, canonical models, and payment data mapping.
  • Ability to create and document Target Operating Models (TOMs) and define how opportunities and challenges will be delivered through these TOMs.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in MS Office and collaboration tools like Jira and Confluence.
  • Consulting and / or strategy experience preferred, demonstrating problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective stakeholder management.
  • Tier 1 bank or financial institution experience preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, exercising sound judgment.
  • Skilled in data analysis and capable of thriving in ambiguous situations.
  • Demonstrated storytelling skills and documentation skills.

The Director, TDS Operations oversees a large and significant multi-faceted operational function with overall accountability for providing strategic direction, guidance on a broad and diverse range of complex operational activities/ analysis and/or specialized project support or services within Global Operations.

Depth & Scope:

  • Provides people management leadership by recruiting top talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Reports to AVP or VP Global Operations role and leads a multi-faceted / multi-disciplined operational group in Wholesale Banking
  • Manages multiple processes across a wide variety of products and services
  • Responsible for leading in the development of the overall strategic direction, operating budget, delivering business objectives, and overall people management for the unit
  • Responsible for operating within appropriate risk parameters and ensuring exception/escalation processes are in place
  • Long term focus on planning for functional area (horizon of 1 to 3 years +)

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree/ college diploma preferred and/or
  • 7+ years relevant experience and 5+ years of people management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of key functional areas including Capital Markets, Financing Operations, Payment and Correspondent Banking Services, Business Services, Change Delivery, and Regional Operations
  • Knowledge of capital markets products, which may include Foreign Exchange, Fixed Income, Equities and Derivatives.
