The Head of Core & Commercial Banking Technology Modernization is a critical role responsible for modernizing the bank's technology stack, accelerating innovation through ecosystem partnerships, and delivering scalable, secure, and customer centric solutions. This role will drive technology co-innovation, third party integrations, and partner strategy across the enterprise, ensuring alignment with regulatory standards, business objectives, and digital transformation goals.
Job Description:
Depth & Scope
- Lead a multi-year roadmap for modernizing core infrastructure and business systems, ensuring alignment with digital operational and regulatory priorities.
- Oversee planning and execution of modernization initiatives across core platforms such as: Core banking systems (deposits, lending, payments), Risk and compliance engines, customer master data and workflow orchestration.
- Identify and establish strategic alliances with vendors and platform providers.
- Structure, negotiate and manage partnership agreements, including co-development licensing, and joint ventures.
- Drive co-innovation initiatives with external partners and internal stakeholders to enhance banking capabilities, customer experience, and operational resilience.
- Oversee integration or third-party technologies into legacy and modern banking platforms with a focus on scalability, compliance, and security.
- Launce pilot programs and proofs of concept to evaluate new technologies, such as AI/ML, blockchain, embedded finance or open banking APIs.
- Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Fraud, and Operations to ensure technology solutions meet business, regulatory, and technical requirements.
- Influence enterprise architecture and modernization roadmaps by embedding partner capabilities where relevant.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to Sr. Executives on emerging technologies, competitive insights, and ecosystems strategy.
- Drive measurable financial value from strategic technology partnerships through cost efficiencies, revenue growth, improved time to market and customer acquisition.
- Manage technology modernization budgets, ensuring financial discipline and ROI-focused investment.
- TCO reduction through vendor optimization, cloud efficiency, and legacy decommissioning
- Partner selection and procurement efforts with a focus on cost-effective scalability and business value.
- Oversee budgets, covering infrastructure upgrades, innovation pilots, and vendor agreements.
Experience:
- Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate
- Graduate degree, preferred
- 10 - 15+ years related experience
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in the Mainframe, deposits processing domain with innovative and process mining technologies expertise.
- Experience in Systematics, Cobol, regulatory and deposit and commercial banking technologies and industry trends.
