The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, IT, the Senior IT Infrastructure Administrator, will support the management and upgrades of our on-premise systems. This role is essential in maintaining the robustness and security of our technology infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations and minimizing operational risks. Not only will you be helping improve our on-premise infrastructure, you will play a key role in transitioning various on-site assets to the cloud. This role’s primary focus is to improve the overall internal infrastructure to reduce operational risk and enhance the company's security posture.
Location of Position:
This position will be a hybrid position based in our Burnaby, BC office.
Specifically, the Senior IT Infrastructure Administrator will:
System Management & Upgrades:
- Oversee the day-to-day maintenance, support, and optimization of Linux server environments.
- Plan and execute system upgrades, patching, and lifecycle management for Linux systems.
- Monitor, maintain, and regularly test backup systems to ensure data integrity and recoverability.
- Perform physical server and storage system maintenance and upgrades as required.
- Lead system migrations, including transitions from CentOS to Ubuntu.
- Upgrade legacy systems to modern platforms or migrate workloads to cloud environments.
- Implement and maintain Linux automation using tools such as Ansible.
- Facilitate migrations between different hypervisor platforms.
Infrastructure Security & Networking:
- Design and implement network segmentation and isolation strategies.
- Enhance and maintain internal security controls and best practices.
- Manage and maintain internal certificate infrastructure.
Operations & Support:
- Respond rapidly and effectively to critical infrastructure issues and outages.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and performance across all systems.
Continuous Improvement Focus:
In addition to core responsibilities, you will contribute to strengthening our infrastructure by improving:
- Backup strategies (on-site, off-site, and cloud-based)
- Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans
- Incident Response processes and documentation
Technology Stack:
- Predominantly Linux, including CentOS 7 and Ubuntu
- FreeIPA – LDAP and CA
- oVirt Hypervisor stack
- KVM and VMWare Hypervisors
- Linux based Firewalls – Shorewall
- Fortigate Firewalls
- Cisco and HP/Aruba Switches
- GlusterFS, MDRaid, ZFS, XFS
- Supermicro and HPE servers
- OpenVPN and Wire guard
What You Bring:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
- 5+ years of experience in administering Linux clients and servers, networking, and cybersecurity
- 5+ years of experience in network management (VLANs, Firewalls, NAT, Segmentation, Proxy’s, Packet Sniffing, etc)
- Physical capability to add/remove servers from a rack
- Will be required to carry a cell phone for on-call support to respond to critical issues
Preferred Experience:
- Experience with system migrations and upgrades
- Proficiency in using automation tools like Ansible
