The automotive industry is a market for leading-edge semiconductor solutions that help ensure vehicles that are feature rich and safe to drive. Synopsys is a world leader in providing semiconductor IP solutions for the automotive industry and is seeking a Functional Safety and CyberSecurity Manager whose primary mandate is to ensure that Synopsys Automotive IPs comply with ISO 26262 and related standards for automotive functional safety and reliability.

The role involves Functional Safety Leadership within the Synopsys Security IP product teams, working with cross-functional leads, and customers to ensure conformance to quality, functional safety, and automotive cybersecurity requirements. The role functions on a global scale and requires you to collaborate with partner engineering teams, external customers and third-party partners around the globe.

Some domestic and international travel may be required.

The Automotive Manager (Functional Safety & CyberSecurity) is responsible for:

Main Responsibilities:

  • Leading the Functional Safety and Cybersecurity activities, development methodology, processes and confirmation measures for hardware, firmware, embedded software, or mixed products and solutions
  • Managing cross-functional collaboration and project execution with IPG Security IP product development teams
  • Keeping track of industry trends in the fast-changing field of Functional Safety to support new product innovations
  • Ensuring Functional Safety and Automotive methodologies and processes are in alignment with business objectives while delivering differentiated solutions
  • Embodying a collaborative, supportive, and inspirational leadership style to deliver results that exceed expectations
  • Work with customers, marketing/sales and field teams, and product teams to evaluate customer requirements related to quality, functional safety, and automotive CyberSecurity
  • Comfortable in a matrixed, international, team-oriented environment with multiple stakeholders
  • Management of all Work Products listed in the project Safety/ CyberSecurity Plan
  • Management of Work Products derived from those requirements at all product lifecycle levels (Concept, Architectural and HW levels)
  • Coordination of internal development teams and automotive customers to ensure functional safety & CyberSecurity compliance
  • Coordination with product teams to evaluate customer requirements related to quality, functional safety, and automotive CyberSecurity
  • Coordination with the Functional Safety, CyberSecurity and internal development teams on projects and task planning, progress tracking and reporting
  • Participation in quality and functional safety, CyberSecurity reviews, audits, assessments and certification efforts
  • Maintenance and enhancement of functional safety methods and templates
  • Conduct reviews with product, safety and quality teams to develop Technical Safety Concept documents in JAMA, work with the Synopsys IPG Functional Safety team to develop DFA, DFMEA, qualitative FMEDA and Safety Manuals
  • Work with the Verification teams for Fault Injection campaigns to convert qualitative FMEDAs to quantitative versions.
  • Understanding basic failure modes for Security Cores and design mechanisms that will detect failures and provide error notifications. Mechanisms designed for protection must be robust and include methods for self-testing
  • Track review/assessment feedback with Jira bug tracking systems and drive to closure
  • Work with internal quality teams to establish safety culture in BU
  • Create checklists for safety engineers to use as part of reviews
  • Perform FTA (Fault Tree Analysis) on Security Core Safety architectures
  • Perform safety analysis on Security Cores and develop the safety case and safety Plans.

Key Requirements:

  • Must have BSEE in EE with 8+ years of relevant experience or MSEE with 7+ years of relevant experience
  • Understanding of semiconductor development flows (digital design background advantageous)
  • Formal training and certifications in ISO 26262 & SAE/ ISO 21434
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in semiconductor area
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant technical experience in Functional Safety for automotive
  • Full understanding of automotive Functional Safety standard ISO 26262 and proficiency application of standard requirements to product development life cycle
  • Full end-to-end experience and complete life cycle of Functional Safety product developments
  • Contribute to management of the CyberSecurity Development Lifecycle with working knowledge of automotive CyberSecurity standards such as ISO 21434
  • Project Management experience is highly desirable
  • Experience with various ISO 26262 work products (Hardware focus) such as Technical Safety Concept; Safety Plan; FMEA Analysis; FMEDA Analysis; Dependent Fault Analysis; Safety Manual; Safety Case
  • Experience as a Functional Safety Manager in safety critical applications with solid understanding of hardware development and functional lifecycle management
  • Experience in qualifying systems with embedded hardware to various ISO 26262 ASIL levels up to ASIL D
  • Proven skills in leading semiconductor automotive activities, customer interactions, project planning and tracking, managing deliveries, and working with remote teams
  • Exceptional verbal/written communication, leadership, face-to-face, and team partnership skills
  • A customer-centric mindset and a passion for innovation
  • Highly proficient in verbal and written English
  • Working knowledge of JAMA /Jira/ Confluence or similar
  • Working understanding of automotive reliability standards such as AEC Q100 is an advantage
  • Working understanding of quality standards such as ISO 9001 or IATF 16949 is an advantage
