This role will report into the Intellectual Property (IP) business unit and will be based primarily from home with occasional requirements to be in office.

About You

You are an enthusiastic graduate in electrical engineering, computer science or biotechnology with a keen interest on becoming a registered patent agent. You're a high-potential person and effective communicator who wants more than a traditional corporate career path. You want to apply your background in STEM and perhaps have some experience in intellectual property. What You Will Do and The Value You Will Add

Leveraging your education background and experience, you you will learn the ropes of IP strategy, searches, administration, patent drafts and prosecution all while taking the necessary patent courses towards the goal of passing the patent agent examinations and becoming a registered patent agent with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO).

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting patent applications
  • Providing patent prosecution support
  • Developing and implementing IP strategies for our clients
  • Working in collaboration with external counsel on activities as appropriate
  • Interfacing with clients to generate/filter invention disclosures
  • Maintaining portfolio databases and rolling budgets
  • Contributing to work products required for patent litigation
  • Sourcing new leads and client accounts to manage
  • Developing business for other Stratford practices and joint opportunities
  • Other tasks/projects as assigned by the practice lead or your clients

Required Experience:

  • Recent graduate degree in electrical engineering, computer science or biotechnology
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, versatile and efficient
  • Proactive and strategic thinking
  • Adaptable to a variety of duties
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Independent, capable of self-directing your work
