Summary: The Digital Hardware Engineer will be part of a multidisciplinary systems design team which performs the development of complex high speed, multi-layer PCB Assemblies, DC Power Distribution Networks, Cable Harnesses, Test Fixtures, and FPGA firmware. The individual will provide day to day support for design and test engineering teams by assisting with evaluation hardware, as well as test bench infrastructure. Support will include the design, analysis, and debug of hardware systems (Digital, analog, RF, and power). The Engineer will perform duties in simulation and hardware.

Essential Duties:

The Hardware engineer is responsible for:

  • High Level PCB Architecture driven by internal and external customer requirements.
  • Schematic Capture using OrCAD 17.4 or similar to define hardware interconnections.
  • PCB stackup definition.
  • PCB component placement and routing rules definition.
  • PCB Verification and Test documentation.
  • Presenting detailed design approach and analysis to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implementation of high-speed serial protocols such as Ethernet and PCie.
  • Implementation of high-speed memory such as DDR4.
  • Implementation of robust power delivery network circuits.
  • FPGA RTL Coding, including finite state machines, and embedded communications protocols such as SPI, and I2C.
  • FPGA timing analysis and timing closure.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of basic electronics.
  • Demonstrable ability to troubleshoot and solve technical problems Familiarity with lab hardware such as oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters, etc.
  • Recommended Completed Courses: Electronics, Digital Circuits, Computer Architecture.
  • Experience working in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and block diagrams.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineering team, operations, and customers.
  • Familiarity with basic computer systems and business software.

Skills (Preferred):

  • Experience with FPGA Design and HDL languages (Verilog/ VHDL).
  • Experience with programming/ scripting languages (Python, C, C#).
  • Familiarity with Defense Open Systems Architectures (SOSA, OpenVPX, VNX+).

Work Environment:

  • On-Site position in a manufacturing facility.
