Sobeys is full of exciting opportunities and we are always looking for bright new talent to join our team! We currently have a full-time opportunity for an Unix Systems Admin. This role is based out of our office in Stellarton, NS.

Here’s where you’ll be focusing:

As a Unix Systems Admin with Sobeys, you will:

  • Administer of virtualized Unix environments (PowerVM/Cloud)
  • Participate in architecture design and reviews
  • Participate in application migrations from on-premises to the Cloud.
  • Automate manual support and maintenance activities to aid in system management continuous improvement.
  • Install Operating System software, upgrades, maintenance fixes/patches, and third-party software applications following industry standards.
  • Perform data gathering, debugging, root cause analysis, and problem resolution.
  • Participate in data center hardware installations.
  • Support and work with consultants/technicians to correct any hardware/OS problems that may arise.(PowerVM/Cloud)
  • Provide technical expertise on projects.
  • Participate in all areas of analysis, quality assurance, and performance tuning with the project team
  • Data Storage Management.
  • Develop and maintain Technical Recovery Plans for systems, databases, applications and participate in back up processes.
  • Participate in Disaster Recovery exercises to validate documented procedures.
  • Administration of SAP products on premise and in Azure.
  • Participate in a rotational 24-hour on-call support.

What you have to offer:

Your experience and resume will show us:

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years in a UNIX/LINUX based systems administration role.
  • Experience supporting SAP ERP, ECC, DB2 and SAP HANA DB is considered an asset.
  • Administer Cloud and on-premises environments to ensure their availability, reliability, security, and integrity.
  • Collaborate with other IT functional areas and project teams to implement, deploy, and maintain cloud and on premises solutions.
  • Work closely with IT Security and Center of Excellence teams to implement industry best practices.
