Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Grant and Loan Writer to support the identification, development, and management of government grants, loans, tax credits, and other funding opportunities that align with Calians’ Defence business priorities.

In this role, you will research funding programs, assess eligibility requirements, collaborate with internal subject matter experts and senior leaders as well as develop compelling applications that help secure external funding.

Success in this position requires exceptional research skills, concise and persuasive communication abilities, strong business acumen, and the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and effective submissions. Experience within the Defence and/or Space sectors will be considered a strong asset for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Research, map, identify, and assess government grants, loans, tax credits, and other funding opportunities aligned with business priorities
  • Evaluate funding program requirements and determine alignment with Calian’s capabilities, products, and strategic objectives
  • Partner with senior leaders to identify and prioritize funding opportunities worth pursuing
  • Prepare polished, professional, and persuasive grant and loan applications tailored to program requirements
  • Work closely with subject matter experts to gather technical information and translate it into clear and compelling written responses
  • Coordinate cross-functional contributions, including budget and financial information required for applications
  • Manage stakeholder reviews, feedback, and document revisions
  • Monitor application timelines and oversee submission processes
  • Respond to funding agency inquiries and requests for additional information
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency throughout all submissions
  • Prepare and deliver presentations regarding funding opportunities to senior leadership and other such similar responsibilities

Qualifications

  • A relevant post-secondary education or equivalent experience
  • 4 to 7 years of proven experience writing grant and/or loan applications, proposals, or funding submissions
  • Exceptional written communication skills with the ability to develop persuasive, well-structured, and concise content
  • Strong research skills and familiarity with funding research resources, databases, and online sources
  • Experience evaluating eligibility requirements and navigating government funding programs and application processes
  • Ability to work with subject matter experts and gather information required to develop effective applications
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Knowledge of budgeting and financial reporting related to grants and funding programs
  • Experience within the Defence industry will be considered an asset
  • Experience supporting funding opportunities related to the Space sector will also considered an asset

Additional Requirements

  • Possession or eligibilty to obtain a Canadian Government Level II (Secret) Security Clearance as this is a requirement for this role
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to learn and understand business operations, products, and services to effectively align funding opportunities with organizational priorities
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism
  • Strong sense of urgency with a proactive and solution-focused approach
  • Ability to build productive working relationships across multiple teams and stakeholder groups

Compensation

$80,000 to $110,000CAD annually
