About Calian
At Calian, we help organizations overcome obstacles, manage risks, and drive progress. Since 1982, we’ve grown from a small consulting firm into a trusted global company across defence, space, health, nuclear energy, public safety, and government.
We create innovative solutions that tackle complex challenges and help organizations and communities stay resilient, informed, and connected. If you’re driven by purpose and energized by solving real-world challenges, we want you on our team.
Job Type: Full Time, Part Time
Position Overview
Calian is a trusted partner to public sector organizations across Canada, delivering specialized health, training, and professional services in complex operational environments. We support first responders, enforcement professionals, and public-facing workforces through evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches that prioritize safety, professionalism, and well-being.
Calian is seeking qualified Registered Psychotherapists (RP) to support a potential Mental Health Awareness Training program within a large urban transit environment.
Responsabilities
This role involves delivering clinician-led Mental Health Awareness, Crisis Intervention Awareness, and Self-Care training to enforcement and protective services personnel who work in a fast-paced, public-facing transit setting. Participants regularly interact with individuals experiencing mental health crises, emotional distress, suicidal ideation, homelessness, and substance-related challenges.
Training supplements core legislated content and is designed to provide clinically grounded, operationally relevant insight that supports lawful, proportionate, and empathetic responses.
- Deliver in-person Mental Health Awareness training to new recruits, experienced personnel, and supervisors
- Facilitate training programs ranging from one to three full instructional days, depending on audience
- Present content that is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and tailored to enforcement and public safety contexts
- Support scenario-based training by observing simulated mental health encounters and providing educational debriefs
- Contribute to training materials, course standards, and learning objectives as required
- Assess participant learning through written and/or practical evaluations
- Maintain attendance records and provide post-session reporting as requested
- Provide clinical insight related to stress management, resilience, compassion fatigue, and self-care
Qualifications
- Must be a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing, licensed to practise in Ontario with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
- Must have a minimum five (5) years of experience delivering mental health, crisis intervention, or self-care training in enforcement, public safety, or comparable operational environments
- Must be fully fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing). Biligualism (English/French) is considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated experience as a practising clinician working with individuals experiencing mental health crises
- Experience providing consultation, incident review, or evaluative support in a public safety or enforcement context
- Strong ability to communicate clinical concepts clearly to non-clinical audiences
Additional Requirements
- Experience working with law enforcement, special constables, or municipal enforcement personnel
- Familiarity with public transit or other high-volume public environments
- Experience supporting scenario-based or judgement training involving role-players
- Knowledge of Canadian public safety legislation and discretion-based enforcement principles
Location and Level of Effort
- In-person delivery at training facilities within the Greater Toronto Area
- Sessions typically scheduled on weekdays during business hours, with occasional evenings or weekends based on operational needs
- Multiple training sessions may be delivered annually, subject to program requirements
