Our global team of innovators is always looking to create meaningful solutions to some of the toughest challenges facing our world. Find out how far your passion can take you.
About the Job
At Brightly, we are evolving our portfolio through intelligent, data-driven and AI-enabled solutions that help our clients manage assets, optimize capital planning, and operate more sustainable environments. Our mission is to help the organizations we serve make smarter, more confident decisions that improve communities around the world.
The Principal AI Product Designer is a senior strategic individual contributor responsible for shaping how Artificial Intelligence transforms asset lifecycle management, operational intelligence, and customer decision-making across Brightly’s product ecosystem.
This role operates with enterprise-level impact and executive visibility. The Principal will define and champion AI experience principles spanning traditional machine learning systems as well as emerging generative and agentic technologies — ensuring that innovation is responsible, accessible, explainable, and aligned to measurable customer value.
This is not a people management role. It is a hands-on, high-influence position responsible for shaping vision, mentoring design teams, elevating AI fluency across the organization, and ensuring scalable, trustworthy AI experience standards are embedded across products.
What you will do
- Define and articulate Brightly’s AI product experience vision and north star(s) across the portfolio in partnership with executive leadership.
- Translate AI capabilities — including predictive systems, generative AI, and agentic workflows — into differentiated, enterprise-grade user experiences that drive measurable customer and business outcomes.
- Establish scalable interaction standards for explainability, transparency, human-in-the-loop workflows, and trust in AI-enabled products.
- Design and co-design high-impact AI initiatives embedded in core workflows, ensuring responsible and accessible execution.
- Partner closely with Product Management, Engineering, Data Science, Legal, and UX teams to align AI investment strategy with user value and enterprise readiness.
- Elevate AI fluency across Product, Design, and Engineering through mentorship, education, design critiques, and shared frameworks.
- Identify cross-portfolio AI opportunities that improve retention, expansion, operational efficiency, and customer confidence.
- Lead forward-looking exploration of emerging AI paradigms and rapidly prototype concepts that bridge innovation into practical enterprise solutions.
- Contribute to executive briefings, client engagements, and strategic discussions where AI strategy and value articulation are central.
- Champion responsible AI adoption, ensuring governance, accessibility, and inclusive design principles are embedded into AI-driven solutions.
What you need
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Psychology, or a related field required; Master’s degree or advanced coursework in UX, AI, or human-centered technology preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in UX or Product Design within complex enterprise or B2B environments.
- Experience operating at a Principal or Director level as a high-impact strategic individual contributor.
- Strong systems thinking across multi-product ecosystems and cross-functional environments.
- Demonstrated ability to influence executive stakeholders and shape cross-organizational direction without direct authority.
- Deep conceptual understanding of AI approaches, including:
- Traditional machine learning systems and probabilistic outputs
- Model confidence and interpretability concepts
- Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and prompt orchestration
- Human-in-the-loop systems and workflow augmentation
- Agentic multi-step reasoning systems
- Responsible AI deployment and governance considerations
- Ability to translate technical AI capabilities into coherent, usable, and differentiated enterprise experiences.
- Strong storytelling and communication skills, with experience presenting to senior executives or clients.
- Commitment to responsible AI practices, accessibility, and inclusive design.
- Ability and willingness to travel up to 15% of the time inside and outside of the US.
Essential behaviors:
- Customer-centric focus
- Relentless curiosity
- Resourceful problem solving
- Clear communication and radical candor
What makes you a Standout
- Demonstrate strong accountability for enterprise-level AI experience quality and integrity.
- Possess a clear, forward-looking vision for AI-enabled product transformation while remaining grounded in practical execution.
- Balance innovation with enterprise trust, safety, regulatory, and operational constraints.
- Build credibility and influence across Executive and Senior Leadership teams.
- Evangelize AI concepts responsibly and drive consistent adoption of scalable experience standards.
- Communicate complex AI strategy clearly and confidently across technical and non-technical audiences.
