YOUR NEW ROLE – CHALLENGING AND FUTURE-ORIENTED
The Senior Manager (Government Affairs) will be responsible for supporting SEIL’s strategic engagement with government bodies and key industry associations in India, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka & help in supporting policy discourse and elevate SEIL’s position as a trusted industry leader. The incumbent will also play a pivotal role in strengthening relationships with prominent forums, advancing the company’s strategic agenda in alignment with national priorities along with adopting global advocacy topics to the country level and integrating them into county government affairs strategy. The role reports to the Head of Government Affairs, SEIL and is based in Gurgaon. The engagement with key public utilities will be helpful which includes mainly central PSUs, Regulators & Consultants.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Government Engagement:
o Develop and drive structured engagement plans with key government officials in ministries & central PSUs, Regulators & Consultants.
o Analyze evolving political and policy developments, assess business implications, and provide strategic recommendations to team
o Support policy advocacy aligned with SEIL’s priorities in energy transition, grid modernization, and sustainability.
o Monitoring Govt plans captured in like Union Budget, FTAs & other trade policies.
· Stakeholder Management:
o Build and sustain strong, trust-based relationships with senior government representatives, industry associations, think tanks, and ecosystem partners.
o Position SEIL as a constructive industry partner through proactive engagement and solution-oriented dialogue.
o Prepare high-quality briefing materials, policy notes, and engagement strategies for senior leadership interactions.
Industry Influence & Representation:
o Strengthen SEIL’s positioning as a thought leader in decarbonization, innovation, clean technologies, and digital grid solutions.
o Translate global advocacy priorities into actionable country-level government affairs strategies.
o Lead SEIL’s engagement with key industry platforms such as CII, IEEMA, and other relevant associations.
o Represent SEIL in panels, working groups, task forces, and strategic industry forums to advance business and policy objectives.
o Closely work with German Embassy & other agencies like IGCC & IGEF..etc
· Risk & Issue Management:
o Proactively identify geo-political risks that could impact operations or growth plans.
o Develop mitigation strategies and coordinate cross-functional responses during government-related issues or crises.
o Ensure preparedness through structured monitoring and scenario planning.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration & Business Alignment
o Partner with Business/Execution Units to align government engagement with strategic priorities and market expansion plans.
o Identify and advocate for policy enablers, funding mechanisms, and incentive schemes relevant to SEIL’s portfolio.
o Act as a bridge between external stakeholders and internal functions (Legal, Compliance, Communications, Strategy) to ensure coherent and compliant positioning.
WE’VE GOT QUITE A LOT TO OFFER. HOW ABOUT YOU? QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Experience: 10 years in government affairs, public policy, or related roles in closely working with central PSUs, Regulators & Consultants within multinational corporations in Energy, Industrial, or manufacturing sectors, with deep understanding of energy sector. Experience in working with CII, IEEMA, FICCI, IGCC, IEGF & German Embassy will be helpful.
· Expertise: Proven experience in engaging with government bodies and regulatory authorities. Strong track record in industry representation and policy influence with relevant stakeholders.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
· Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop long-term strategies for policy influence.
· Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of energy sector and familiarity in relevant industry forums and ability to drive initiatives.
· Govt. Processes: Deep understanding of government processes relevant to SEIL’s business.
· Communication & Networking: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; fluency in English and Hindi required, additional regional languages a plus. Strong networking skills with relevant stakeholders.
