Product Manager, Portable Devices & Sensors (Switchgear Monitoring)
Product Scope:
Switchgear Monitoring Portfolio with focus on Portable Devices (Portable Partial Discharge Monitoring Device, Portable Circuit Breaker Monitoring Device) and related sensors / accessories.
Role Purpose:
The Product Manager for Portable Devices & Sensors is responsible for the entire product lifecycle of the Portable PDM device within the DG GET Switchgear Monitoring portfolio. The role includes developing product strategy, defining requirements, guiding development execution, overseeing industrialization, and managing the global market launch. It is ensured that the product is advanced from prototype to sales release in accordance with the DG PLM process and relevant decision gates.
In this capacity, the Product Manager serves as the central interface between research & development, engineering, operations/production, quality assurance, cybersecurity, sales/marketing, and service. The objective is to deliver a compliant, scalable, and commercially successful portable monitoring solution.
How You’ll Make an Impact (responsibilities of role)
1) Product Strategy & Roadmap
Own the product vision, value proposition, target segments, and multi-year roadmap for Portable
Devices and associated portable sensing solutions aligned with the overall Switchgear Monitoring
portfolio. Translate market and customer needs into prioritized product initiatives, differentiators, and release increments (including accessory/sensor ecosystem, usability, reporting, and field workflows). Define product positioning versus competitive portable PD monitoring offerings and establish clear messaging and proof points.
2) PLM Ownership & Governance (DG PLM)
Lead the Portable product portfolio through the DG PLM lifecycle, ensuring high-quality deliverables, stakeholder alignment, and gate readiness. This includes (as applicable):
Q.G 100 Business Case Approval, P.M 190 Basic Investigation, Q.G 200 R&D Go/No-Go, P.M 250
Increment Implemented & Verified, P.M 260 Pilot Success, P.M 280 Sales Release, Q.G 300 Product Release, Q.G 310 Change Release, and lifecycle/phase-out steps.
Maintain product documentation and gate deliverables (business case, requirements, risk and
compliance artifacts, validation evidence, launch readiness, etc.).
3) Cross-Functional Development Leadership (HW/SW/System)
Own and maintain the product requirements (functional, performance, usability, reliability,
serviceability, cybersecurity, safety, regulatory).
Drive execution with cross-functional teams (hardware, embedded/software, UX, testing/validation, operations) to finalize prototype maturity and productize for scale (e.g., UI updates, hardware/case changes, software improvements, reporting workflows).
Ensure the portable solution is fit for the intended use cases (short-term monitoring, surveys, HV
tests) and aligns with the underlying platform where applicable.
4) Quality, Compliance, Cybersecurity & Product Risk
Ensure product compliance strategy and execution for target markets (incl. product safety and EMC
considerations; CE/UKCA readiness as applicable).
Coordinate with Quality, Cybersecurity, and Risk Management to address required assessments,
testing plans, and approvals across PLM gates.
5) Pilot Programs, Voice of Customer & Validation
Plan and execute global pilot deployments to collect structured feedback, validate workflows, and
prove product-market fit.
Establish a closed-loop feedback mechanism with regions, service teams, and factories; translate
learning into backlog items and release content.
6) Go-to-Market & Commercial Enablement
Define go-to-market plan in collaboration with Sales/Marketing/Service: pricing logic (if in scope),
bundles, sales tools, demos, training material, and launch campaigns.
Prepare launch readiness package for Sales Release (P.M 280) and ensure execution across functions (supply, training, documentation, support model).
Support key customer engagements, events, and internal enablement to scale adoption.
7) Lifecycle Management & Continuous Improvement
Own post-launch product performance tracking (quality, delivery, customer feedback, support cases) and continuous improvement roadmap, including change releases under PLM governance.
