Siemens Digital Industries Software is a leading provider of solutions for the design, simulation, and manufacture of products across many different industries. Formula 1 cars, skyscrapers, ships, space exploration vehicles, and many of the objects we see in our daily lives are being conceived and manufactured using our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software.

Position Overview:

GTI (Global Technology and Infrastructure) is the backbone of innovation at Siemens Digital Industries Software, providing mission-critical infrastructure that enables thousands of engineers globally to design the future. Our Physical Team operates multiple global major data centers and remote sites worldwide, managing 65PB+ of storage, networks, private cloud, virtualization and facilities. Our Services Team delivers applications, compute grids, VDI, and operational excellence through our Center of Excellence. Together, we support the world's most demanding engineering workloads- from CAD/CAM and simulation to HPC and digital twin development.

As our Principal Storage Strategy and Operations Architect, you'll be the senior storage operations architect driving transformation of 65PB+ of enterprise storage across multiple global data centers and sites. Working in a dynamic matrix environment within our Physical Team, you'll operationalize our storage ecosystem and shape how Siemens DISW engineers access, protect, and leverage data on a global scale. You'll solve complex problems few storage professionals encounter: multi-region compliance and data sovereignty, parallel file system modernization, hybrid cloud integration, and evolving a management plane that treats our global infrastructure as one cohesive ecosystem. Up to 15-25% travel to data centers and remote sites may be required.

In this role, you will have:

  • Global Impact- Enable thousands of engineers worldwide to innovate and create products shaping industries
  • Technical Challenge- Solve storage problems at scale and complexity few organizations match
  • Strategic Influence- Shape multi-year storage technology operations strategy and investment decisions
  • Collaborative Culture- Work with world-class engineers valuing collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning
  • Flexibility- Open to global candidates; US-based preferred for senior leadership coordination

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operationalize the Global Storage Ecosystem
    • Define the management plane: Architect and implement centralized tooling, monitoring, and orchestration that provides global visibility and control across all storage platforms
    • Build the foundation: Develop comprehensive runbooks, automation, operational procedures, and escalation frameworks that evolve our storage assets into a unified, operationally excellent ecosystem
    • Establish operational excellence: Partner with the Services Team's Center of Excellence to define storage-specific KPIs, monitoring standards, alert strategies, and SLA frameworks
    • Clarify roles & responsibilities: Work across Physical and Services teams to define clear RACI models, escalation paths, and support boundaries for storage operations
  • Drive Strategic Storage Modernization
    • Champion adoption of next-generation storage technologies
    • Design and implement scalable, cost-optimized hybrid cloud storage operations (on-premises NetApp/Pure + AWS/Azure)
    • Maintain awareness of storage market landscape; assess vendors and provide strategic recommendations
    • Define self-service capabilities and consumption-based storage-as-a-service models
  • Lead Cross-Functional Coordination & Influence
    • Operate as technical and operational leader across storage, network, server, security, and Services teams—influencing through expertise
    • Actively manage vendor relationships (NetApp, Pure Storage); negotiate technical requirements and ensure optimal support
    • Serve as storage operations liaison to global engineering teams, translating requirements into infrastructure capabilities
    • Elevate team capabilities through coaching, documentation, and promoting continuous learning
  • Ensure Global Compliance & Data Resilience
    • Architect storage operations and backup strategies complying with regional data residency, GDPR, and regulatory frameworks
    • Define operational geo-replication, multi-site redundancy, and DR capabilities ensuring business continuity
    • Establish regular testing protocols for backups, snapshots, replication, and recovery procedures

Required Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
    • 10+ years enterprise storage architecture and operations with demonstrated leadership in complex, global environments
  • Deep Storage Expertise
    • NetApp mastery: Extensive hands-on with ONTAP (cDot), advanced features, performance tuning, OnCommand/Active IQ
    • Pure Storage expertise: In-depth experience with FlashArray/FlashBlade, management, replication, optimization
    • Global scale operations: Proven track record managing and operationalizing storage across multiple global data centers at petabyte scale
    • Hybrid cloud experience: Demonstrated success with storage solutions spanning on-premises and public cloud (AWS, Azure)
  • Operational Leadership
    • Exceptional ability operationalizing complex environments: runbooks, automation, orchestration, SLAs, escalation procedures, HA/DR testing
    • Strong track record building centralized management, monitoring, orchestration for geographically distributed infrastructure
    • Experience defining roles, responsibilities, governance models across multiple technical teams
    • Proven success in matrix leadership—influencing and coordinating without direct authority
  • Strategic & Communication Skills
    • Ability to develop and execute multi-year technology roadmaps and modernization initiatives
    • Exceptional communication presenting complex concepts to audiences from engineers to C-level executives
    • Strong vendor management: relationship building, technical negotiations, market landscape analysis
    • Collaborative mindset, comfortable with ambiguity and dynamic environments, bias for action
  • Technical Foundations
    • Strong working knowledge of storage networking (NFS, SMB, iSCSI, FC, NVMe-oF) and network architecture tradeoffs
