We are looking for Hardware Architect – Automatic Train Protection Systems - Kavach
We are seeking a Hardware Architect with expertise in Railway Signalling Systems to lead the design, development, and validation of Automatic Train Protection (ATP) hardware solutions, including ETCS and Kavach. The ideal candidate will be responsible for defining the hardware architecture, ensuring compliance with railway safety standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and reliable solutions.
You’ll make a difference by
- Hardware Architecture & Design: Define and develop the hardware architecture for ATP systems, covering both onboard (Loco) and trackside (Station) subsystems.
- Design hardware interfaces, communication protocols, and power systems to ensure seamless integration with railway signalling infrastructure.
- Ensure the architecture supports modular, scalable, and fault-tolerant designs.
- Technical Leadership: Lead hardware design reviews and provide technical guidance to engineering teams.
- Collaborate with system, software, and safety engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
- Drive component selection and validation to meet performance, reliability, and environmental standards.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure the hardware design complies with railway safety standards (CENELEC EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) and Kavach/ETCS specifications.
- Contribute to safety case development and support compliance with Safety Integrity Level (SIL 4) requirements.
- Perform FMEA/FMECA analysis to ensure hardware reliability and safety.
- System Integration & Testing: Oversee the integration of hardware components into the overall ATP system architecture.
- Define and support hardware validation and verification (V&V) activities, including lab and field testing.
- Collaborate with certification bodies to obtain necessary approvals and certifications.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain hardware design documentation, including schematics, specifications, and test reports.
- Provide technical reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of railway signalling hardware and ATP systems (ETCS, Kavach, CBTC).
- Expertise in hardware architecture design, including embedded systems, communication interfaces, and power systems.
- Proficiency in hardware design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, Eagle) and simulation tools.
- Experience with real-time embedded systems and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, Ethernet, CAN).
- Familiarity with EMC/EMI compliance and environmental testing standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
Desired Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical / Electronic Engineering, with 10 to 12 years railway signaling design experience in Mass Transit or Main Line projects.
- Possess excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Possess a strong desire to learn, be meticulous, flexible and able to work independently and in a team
- Able to demonstrate good knowledge of ATP principles and solutions on both the trackside and on-board systems.
- Experience in all the stages of the delivery of Projects including design, testing and commissioning and post commissioning support.
- Demonstrable experience in customer and operator interface.
- Demonstrable experience in interfacing with other stakeholders.
- Able to interact and communicate effectively with people at all levels and cultures and provide timely delivery of assigned work with professionalism and quality at all times.
