In Mobility, we help our customers meet the need for hard-working mobility solutions. We’re making the lives of people who travel easier and more enjoyable while constantly developing new, intelligent mobility solutions!
We are looking for System Architect – ATP System (Kavach)
You will be technically responsible for leading implementation projects aimed at enhancing the safety of long-distance rail travel through the deployment of advanced signalling technology. These projects will be based on the latest Kavach specifications developed by the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) for Indian Railways.
You’ll make a difference by
- System Architecture & Design: Define and develop the system architecture for Kavach, covering both Station Kavach and Loco Kavach subsystems, ensuring compliance with railway signalling standards and alignment with project requirements.
- Create system specifications, interface control documents (ICDs), and architectural models.
- Ensure modular, scalable, and maintainable system design to support future upgrades and compatibility.
- Technical Leadership: Lead technical discussions and provide architectural guidance to the engineering and development teams.
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and safety engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
- Drive system-level decision-making for ATP components, communication protocols, and safety mechanisms.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure the design complies with CENELEC standards (EN 50126, EN 50128, EN 50129) and other railway safety regulations.
- Contribute to safety case development and support verification & validation (V&V) activities.
- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis to meet safety integrity level (SIL) requirements.
- System Integration & Testing: Oversee integration of subsystems (trackside and onboard units) into the overall ATP system architecture.
- Define test strategies and support the validation of system functionalities in lab and field environments.
- Collaborate with test and commissioning teams to troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design specifications, and reports.
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong knowledge of railway signalling principles and ATP systems.
- Expertise in system design, modelling tools, and architecture frameworks (e.g., SysML, UML).
- Familiarity with communication protocols used in signalling systems (e.g., Kavach, ETCS, CBTC, ERTMS).
- Proficiency in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion).
- Experience in system safety engineering and applying safety standards (SIL 4 systems).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and leadership skills.
- Exposure to real-time embedded systems and railway communication networks.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles in railway signalling systems.
Desired Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical / Electronic Engineering, with 10 to 12 years railway signaling design experience in Mass Transit or Main Line projects.
- Have performed hands on design engineering activities for System Design, Architecture, Technical leadership, Engineering for wayside and onboard ETCS/CBTC, Evaluation of operational scenarios, requirements, and interfaces.
- Extensive professional experience (10+ years) in railway transportation systems, ideally in the rail systems business.
- Added advantage if you at least have 5+ years of dedicated experience on system design with experience on all of these – Interlocking, Train Control and Train Supervision.
- Clear understanding of all subsystems like Interlocking, ATC, ATS, Communication and Diagnostic Systems
- Fluent in English both orally and written for communication with different stakeholders
- Independent and has a structured work approach.
