About the Job
Brightly is seeking an exceptional leader to drive our artificial intelligence and machine learning strategy . This is a pivotal role for an experienced professional who can bridge the gap between powerful technical innovation and strategic business execution.
We are looking for a visionary leader who will architect, build, and scale our machine learning and AI capabilities while leading a world-class team of data scientists, ML engineers, and AI researchers. This role requires a unique combination of deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and proven leadership abilities to drive AI initiatives that deliver measurable business value.
What you will do
Technical Architecture & Strategy
- AI/ML Strategy Development: Define and implement the company's long-term AI and machine learning strategy, aligning technical capabilities with business objectives
- System Architecture: Design and oversee the implementation of scalable, robust ML/AI infrastructure and platforms
- Technology Evaluation: Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging AI technologies, frameworks, and methodologies
- Standards & Best Practices: Establish ML engineering standards, model governance frameworks, and ethical AI guidelines
- Innovation Leadership: Drive research initiatives and explore modern applications of AI/ML technologies
Leadership & Management
- Team Building: Recruit, develop, and retain top-tier ML engineers, data scientists, AI researchers, and related technical talent
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to identify AI opportunities and deliver integrated solutions
- Stakeholder Management: Present technical strategies and progress to executive leadership and board members
- Budget Management: Manage department budget, resource allocation, and vendor relationships
- Performance Management: Set team goals, conduct performance reviews, and foster professional development
Technical Execution
- Model Development: Oversee end-to-end ML model lifecycle from research and development to production deployment
- Platform Development: Build and maintain ML platforms, tools, and infrastructure for model training, deployment, and monitoring
- Data Strategy: Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure high-quality data pipelines and governance
- Quality Assurance: Implement robust testing, monitoring, and validation frameworks for ML systems
What you need
Education & Experience
- Experience: Minimum 8+ years of hands-on machine learning and AI experience, with at least 4+ years in leadership roles
- Industry Leadership: Proven track record of building and scaling ML/AI teams from ground up
Technical Expertise
- Machine Learning: Deep expertise in supervised/unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and statistical modeling
- Deep Model Architecture: Extensive experience with transformer architectures, attention mechanisms, large-scale neural networks, and model optimization techniques
- Generative AI: Proven experience with generative models including Large Language Models (LLMs), diffusion models, GANs, VAEs, and multimodal AI systems
- AI Technologies: Experience with natural language processing, computer vision, recommendation systems, or other AI domains
- Programming Languages: Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, and familiarity with languages like Java, Scala, or Go
- ML Frameworks: Extensive experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, and other ML/AI frameworks
- Cloud Platforms: Hands-on experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure ML services and infrastructure
- Big Data Technologies: Knowledge of Spark, Hadoop, Kafka, and distributed computing frameworks
- MLOps: Experience with model deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management tools
Leadership & Business Skills
- Team Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop high-performing technical teams
- Critical Thinking: Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and roadmaps
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical partners
- Project Management: Experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary projects with cross-functional teams
What makes you a Standout
- Advanced Education: Masters or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or related quantitative field; or Master's degree with exceptional industry experience
- Published research in top-tier ML/AI conferences or journals
- Experience with real-time ML systems and edge computing
- Knowledge of AI ethics, fairness, and responsible AI practices
- Prior experience in a high-growth technology company
- Understanding of regulatory compliance in AI (GDPR, CCPA, industry-specific regulations)
- Experience with A/B testing and experimental design

The pay range for this position is 159,000 - 273,000 annually with a target incentive of 20 of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
