Key Responsibilities and Functions
Leadership:
- Be a leader and promote RailTerm’s work quality programs, safety culture and compliance to standards and policies;
- Take Ownership of the track that is assigned to you and be an ambassador of RailTerm when interacting with customers, suppliers and employees;
- Provide guidance and support to the maintenance forces assigned to your territory;
- Report and escalate all accidents/incidents and participate in the incident investigation and review processes;
- Act as a role model when it comes to safety, quality of work and efficiency of operations.
Track Inspections and Related Duties
- Support mechanized geometry testing and rail flaw detection testing on the assigned territory;
- Perform quality control inspections related to track work, track programs and other projects;
- In collaboration with the Track Supervisor, manage and analyse all existing track inspections (visual, mechanical and external audits) and undertake all pertinent condition monitoring (rail wear, tie counts, ballast and vegetation surveys etc.) to assist in developing specific maintenance program requirements for the territory;
- Assist and interact with customers, federal and provincial authorities or other third parties upon need;
- Undertake Performance Monitoring and Rules Compliance related to track maintenance programs and other work activities;
- Implement Safety Directives and assist in the development of safety programs and goals
- Perform administrative duties in relation to the track inspection process (monitor inspection deadlines, enter inspections into database, analyse all information on the infrastructure condition and prepare work program recommendations)
- Provide on-call support and response on a rotating cycle for incidents and emergencies to support 24/7 operation.
- Conduct regular inspections to assess track conditions and identify necessary maintenance.
- Prioritize and schedule daily track maintenance and repair activities.
- Oversee and manage both union and non-union employees engaged in track work.
- Supervise and coordinate the delivery of maintenance programs and capital improvement projects.
- Provide technical recommendations to ensure safe, continuous train operations.
- Support emergency response and service restoration as required.
- Ensure work is performed in compliance with safety standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including performing regulatory track inspections.
- Track Inspection Guidelines Qualification (TIG);
- Thorough understanding of track geometry;
- Thorough understanding of track standards, recommended work methods and track safety requirements;
- Thorough understanding of continuous welded rail (CWR);
- Highly organized (time management), flexible, reliable and autonomous;
- Strong leadership and ability to train, supervise coach other employees
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Strong Background in track inspection and maintenance
- Must be able to read and understand technical drawings and geometry charts
- Ability to walk for extended periods of time (up to 5 miles per day);
- Valid Drivers License and clean driver and CVOR abstracts.
