Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Material Planning Manager (MPM) to join our team! If you have a passion for ensuring material availability and driving smooth, efficient manufacturing operations, this role is for you. Bring your fresh ideas and proactive approach to make a real impact on our production processes!

While many factors can affect material availability, the MPM can significantly influence these through early identification and proactive action. The MPM's role involves anticipating potential issues such as late engineering releases, engineering change notices (ECNs), purchase orders (POs) placed within supplier lead times, supplier quality issues, and sub-supplier issues.

Your role will be to escalate these issues promptly to enable timely mitigation. This involves coordinating and driving mitigation measures and keeping all stakeholders informed about the issues, actions being taken, and expected material delivery dates.

Key stakeholders with whom the Material Planning Manager must interface include Engineering, Quality Management, Operations Project Management, Production Control, Logistics, Scheduling, Production Managers, Change Managers, and Project Management.

What your day may look like:

  • Drive on-time material availability for production.
  • Ensure demand dates are aligned with work order start dates and that demand quantities are correct.
  • Work proactively with Engineering, Supply Chain Management, and Project Management to identify unreleased parts, mitigate delays, evaluate the impact on production, and provide updates to Production Management.
  • Collaborate closely with Planner/Buyers and Production Control.
  • Work with Production Planning Management and Quality Management on First Article Inspection parts and escalate any impact on project material availability promptly.
  • Consistently review and analyze system need dates (demand), supplier commitments (supply), and current production status to identify gaps and critical material issues.
    • Collaborate with Planner/Buyers and Supply Chain Management to eliminate gaps.
    • Escalate critical material shortages immediately upon identification.
    • Implement, manage, and own solutions to overcome current and future material shortages.
    • Escalate and work with Operations Project Management and the Project Management team when material issues significantly impact the overall project schedule.
  • Communicate with suppliers on critical shortages impacting production.
  • Provide daily updates to Production Management to ensure visibility of current and future material issues.
  • Coordinate and support the activities of assigned Production Controllers.
  • Drive Quality Management, Material Review Board, and Production to avoid impacts due to non-conforming materials.
  • Track key performance indicators and generate reports, charts, and presentations for Operations Management performance.
  • Support planning and coordination of new projects, new components, engineering changes, and significant production schedule changes through what-if analysis to assess any impacts.
  • Work with Supply Chain Management, Engineering, and Project Management to develop roadmaps for the phase-out of obsolete parts and the phase-in of new product materials, as well as changes in selected suppliers.
  • Focus on continuous improvements and constructive feedback.

What will make you successful in this role:

  • 5+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management within a manufacturing setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, Manufacturing, or Engineering.
  • Proven track record of driving on-time material availability for production.
  • Strong background in ensuring timely issuance of purchase orders and collaborating closely with Planner/Buyers and Production Control.
  • Expertise in conducting look-ahead and gap analysis, consistently reviewing and analyzing system need dates, supplier commitments, and current production status to identify gaps and critical material issues.
  • Experience in engineer-to-order manufacturing and rail industry production.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement, manage, and own solutions to overcome current and future material shortages, and escalate critical material shortages immediately upon identification.
  • Experience in tracking key performance indicators and generating reports, charts, and presentations for Operations Management performance.
  • Strong skills in fostering partnerships and collaborating with all stakeholders, focusing on continuous improvements and constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in SAP ERP and Microsoft Excel; knowledgeable in other Microsoft Office applications.
