Why this role is important?

Assistant Category Manager

Reporting to the Category Director, the Assistant Category Manger will be the subject matter expert that leads strategic initiatives, and the overall financial management of a group of categories with significant annual sales volume. The Assistant Category Manager develops promotional and product related programs in partnership with vendors and cross functional teams to maximize revenue, profit, and market share.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage the planning process to build a category plan that achieves overall category and corporate objectives.
  • Review weekly, period, and YTD financial reports and complete ongoing analysis and quarterly reviews to identify and maximize sales and margin opportunities.
  • Develop promotional programs and activities including product selection, promotional pricing, and forecasting.
  • Develop and monitor planograms to determine product assortment / placement and present planogram strategies to Senior Management.
  • Manage all administration and own the data integrity of the category to ensure that costs, retails, flyer commitments, vendor billings etc, are entered accurately in the system.
  • Negotiate with vendors for trade spend, O&A deals etc. to ensure that business opportunities are maximized.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative spirit that embodies Loblaw's Blue Culture principles and CORE values, fostering strong relationships across the organization.
  • Actively collaborate with internal departments such as Supply Chain, Enterprise Sourcing, and Corporate Brands to identify opportunities, address issues, and strengthen cross-functional partnerships.
  • Conduct store visits to SDM and competitors to identify issues and opportunities.

What You’ll Bring:

  • A data-driven approach to decision-making, translating insights into actionable strategies.
  • A strategic mindset with a proven track record of achieving performance milestones.
  • Strong leadership with an ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • A demonstrated level of initiative and judgment in order to prioritize workload.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Experience

Greater than three years, marketing, merchandising or retail experience.

Education

Post secondary education with courses in Merchandising, Marketing, Business or Retail or equivalent.
