The Director, Strategy and Commercial Operations will report to the VP, Operations & Clinical, MediSystem and is a member of the MediSystem Senior Leadership Team. The Director will act as Chief-of-Staff to the VP, Operations & Clinical, and be responsible for guiding and working closely with senior leadership within the business unit and across the Loblaw Companies Limited/SDM enterprise on business strategy, strategic planning (5-year, multi-year and common-year plans), environmental analyses, and executive reporting and presentations. This is a key role that has a broad and fully cross-functional view across the entire MediSystem business, bringing together the various departments, and be the voice of MediSystem within the greater enterprise. This role works intimately with SDM Finance and SDM Pharmacy Planning & Pricing to determine and handle KPI’s and performance metrics across the business, which includes revenue and EBITDA targets. This role is also responsible for the management and allocation of the total capital envelope, and be the point-of-contact and representative for MediSystem for enterprise-level capex tracking and decision-making.


What you'll do:

  • Lead strategy and annual planning processes for MediSystem

  • Own the multi-year plan and common-year plan with VP; oversee MediSystem’s full P&L each period with VP to ensure financial targets are meeting or exceeding plan/forecast

  • Develop and establish short- and long-term departmental goals and objectives

  • Monitor and manage the full MediSystem capex budget on a period-by-period basis

  • Provide capex reporting and direction on capex allocation to the enterprise

  • Responsible for identifying RFPs and setting the strategy, gathering all inputs and feedback from cross-functional department heads, submitting the proposal, and providing guidance and direction to other enterprise BU’s as required

  • Develop the narrative for large high-profile RFPs and create presentations for the SDM President and CFO for significant capital and headcount approvals

  • Own the end-to-end RFP pro forma process and quarterback all departmental inputs to ensure all new business opportunities (both RFP and non-RPF) meet profitability targets and strategic goals

  • Recommend course of action to the executive SDM Approval Committee

  • Manage all cross-functional projects and programs across teams, especially large scale and high complexity

  • Develop and refine process and tools for quarterly project selection and prioritization

  • Build new continuous improvement function at MediSystem to improve productivity and improve efficiency to drive bottom line savings

  • Stand up Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training program

  • Senior Manager, PMO with team of Project Managers

  • Senior Manager, Process Improvement

  • Proposal Writer

  • Manager, Strategic Procurement and Business Management (dotted line reporting structure for Business Management/pro forma process function)

  • Sponsor and lead innovative critical initiatives with other enterprise BU’s, third party and academic partners on a diverse range of subject areas

  • Responsible for presentations for SDM Monthly Business Reviews, VP offsite and Town Halls

  • Develop white papers to enhance MediSystem’s credibility in the industry

  • Act as subject matter expert on persuasive slide writing, and coach peer Directors and Senior Directors on effective PowerPoint presentations

  • Building and leading diverse teams that foster a workplace of inclusiveness and belonging


What you bring:

  • University degree in business, healthcare, pharmacy or related field with an advanced degree preferred

  • 10+ years experience in management consulting and/or strategy-related roles within large, fast-paced organizations in healthcare, pharmaceutical and/or retail pharmacy

  • 5+ years experience managing a Project Management Office

  • 5+ years experience in the healthcare industry

  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma tools and methodology and proven experience with process improvement

  • Demonstrated experience with leading teams and organizing diverse functions to drive key business results

  • Proficient at delivering results in high-pressure, high-stakes environment with the ability to set priorities and meet multiple challenging deadlines at the same time

  • Strong thought leadership, intuition for business, tact and influence to lead in a matrix environment and work with diverse personalities and styles

  • Extensive knowledge and skill in multiple fields/functional areas to be able to draw on this knowledge and experience to inform thoughtful plans, appreciate different perspectives and competing goals, break down roadblocks and deliver on initiatives

  • Outstanding project management skills from ideation/concept to implementation

  • Experience negotiating partnerships and managing contracts and partner relationships with effectiveness

  • Superior verbal and written communications skills to effectively synthesize and present persuasive presentations/documents at the Executive level and create agreement at all levels of the organization

  • Advanced computer skills required in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Outlook, etc.)
