Why this role is important?

We are looking for an experienced, results-driven Senior Director to lead our Prestige Beauty desk. In this strategic leadership role, you will be responsible for driving growth and profitability across all channels, ensuring we continue to exceed market expectations and remain the leading destination for beauty products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in leading teams, developing and executing strategic plans, and building impactful vendor relationships to fuel both top-line and bottom-line success.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Profitability

  • Lead and mentor a high-performing team of 4 direct reports to achieve sales and profitability goals across both brick-and-mortar and e-commerce channels.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans to accelerate SDM's growth in the Prestige Beauty market.
  • Identify and create new revenue opportunities while maintaining strong vendor funding through O&A.
  • Ensure effective inventory management to balance stock availability and optimize inventory turnover.

Category Leadership

  • Oversee the seasonal assortment strategy, with particular focus on key seasons such as the holiday period, to ensure SDM offers the most comprehensive and attractive product selection.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors, positioning SDM as a top partner and driving mutual success.
  • Collaborate with vendors to secure marketing support, launch innovative programs, and drive both sales and profitability.
  • Co-lead the execution of new brand introductions and transitions, from securing financial coverage to managing logistics and identifying replacement brands.

Capital Planning & Store Concepts

  • Actively participate in bi-weekly Capital Store Feedback and planning meetings.
  • Lead the development and execution of the annual capital request plan for in-store enhancements, including new fixtures.
  • Collaborate with Store Concepts teams to optimize store layouts, product placements, and fixture strategies to enhance the customer experience and maximize sales.
  • Co-manage the introduction of new brand placements within stores and continuously recommend improvements for store assortment and fixture configurations.

E-commerce Strategy

  • Lead and mentor a dedicated team of 2 e-commerce professionals.
  • Oversee the monthly e-commerce planning cycle, including on-site merchandising, email marketing campaigns, social media initiatives, and Beauty Pro communications.
  • Ensure optimal inventory levels for online sales, overseeing timely product replenishment and stock management.
  • Drive the timely listing and management of product assets for online channels.
  • Collaborate with teams to launch new brands in the online space and contribute to emerging initiatives, such as Luxury Beauty.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Provide regular updates and insights at Beauty Center of Excellence (COE) meetings to inform key stakeholders of category performance and market trends.
  • Take a leadership role in vendor participation at Beauty Conferences, ensuring active engagement through booths, workshops, and other opportunities.
  • Participate in monthly Beauty Operations Specialist calls, sharing best practices and addressing operational challenges.
  • Partner closely with Marketing, Social Media, and other teams to align strategies, support key initiatives, and drive growth.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on evolving government, environmental, and ESG guidelines, representing the Prestige category in relevant initiatives and projects.

  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the beauty industry, with a focus on category management, sales, and e-commerce.
  • Strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams and achieving sales targets.
  • Expertise in vendor relations, strategic planning, and project management.
  • Deep understanding of online retail and merchandising, with the ability to drive e-commerce success.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Passion for the beauty industry, with a keen understanding of market trends and consumer needs.
