Why this role is important?

The Manager, Enterprise Pharmacy Continuous Improvement & Compliance role will be accountable for supporting the pharmacy continuous improvement framework within the Pharmacy Operations department. The Manager will work on various continuous quality improvement initiatives nationally and will monitor trends for 1800+ pharmacies within the Loblaw Companies Limited network. Alongside a team of high-performing professionals, this role will also support with systems related initiatives while incorporating safety, quality and risk mitigation strategies and clinical excellence.

What You’ll Do?

Investigation and Resolution:

  • Ability to support enterprise pharmacy operations with risk mitigation strategies within operational programs and procedures, such as the narcotic monitoring process, objectively approaching prescription incidents and/or pharmacy escalations following a methodology to determine root cause and appropriate counter measure. Engaging various stakeholders to ensure a successful resolution of all escalations and creation a continuous quality improvement plan.
  • Provide strong clinical pharmacy support to the organization on operational matters, medication incidents, continuous improvement and safety
  • Learn to use a variety of internal tools to identify root cause and compliance measures for patient safety
  • Be aware of how to identify appropriate tools to use based on situation/incident
  • Ability to generate a professional and considerate response to a customer and stakeholders regarding an incident using non-technical language
  • Ability to develop rapport when speaking to customers and stakeholders, demonstrating empathy, patience, compassion and confidentiality
  • Ability to manage multiple open incidents while prioritizing and performing timely follow up with stakeholders
  • Ability to be on call to participate in narcotic monitoring process, the incident management process, drug recalls, and other operational processes from start to completion
  • Takes initiative to support with various operational tasks and initiatives

Data Analytics and Insights into Continuous Improvement:

  • Ability to work with various database systems to build reports, retrieve and organize data for analysis. Systems include Microsoft excel, Microstrategy and other internal platforms (training will be provided).
  • Ability to perform analysis with large amounts of data to identify trends and causal factors
  • Demonstrates ability to use advanced tools within excel or statistical software programs
  • Ability to interpret analysis and present to stakeholders in simple and easy to understand format
  • Capable of identifying focus areas from data analysis to work with key stakeholders to develop improvement action plan
  • Demonstrated ability to work with internal stakeholders to create a framework for continuous quality improvement
  • Supports stakeholders with identification and implementation of improvement ideas
  • Effective communication with stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Generation of reports and presentations to various stakeholders
  • Support the enterprise’s continuous quality improvement commitment in key projects, including Vision Pharmaprix and other initiatives.

Clinical Support:

  • Provide clinical support to various teams when implementing pharmacy programs and tools
  • Providing clinical expertise and recommendations for listing drugs on the corporate and commercial drug plans.
  • Act as a key clinical decision maker to resolve medication incidents and during medication recalls
  • Overseeing the monthly clinical assessment software updates in our stores as well as problem-solving clinical incidents
  • Overseeing the clinical support tools used by the pharmacy teams across all banners
  • Providing clinical approval authority when launching marketing materials and all pharmacy programs
  • Focus on patient safety and best practice drivers along with developing long-term best-practices for the enterprise

What You’ll Need

This position requires an advanced level of initiative, analysis and judgment in order to organize and prioritize tasks, workload and follow-up. Strong LCL or SDM pharmacy operations knowledge and experience is a must.

  • Licensed Pharmacist - Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or equivalent, Part A in good standing
  • 5+ years of experience in a Pharmacy environment with strong knowledge of pharmacy dispensing software, particularly HealthWATCH and AssystRx Pharmaprix pharmacies
  • Experience managing pharmacy / medication incidents, narcotic monitoring procedures, risk management or other relevant work experience is an asset.
  • Delivers results in a high-pressure environment with the ability to set priorities and meet challenging deadlines
  • Be a great team player that is authentic and genuine with strong clinical communication skills and the ability to empathetically, confidentially and professionally communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including customers
  • Proven client relationship management and customer service skills
  • Strong analytical skills to effectively problem solve
  • Must have a good professional presence and possess strong planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate ideas and actions to those at all levels of the organization
  • Quick learner: ability to rapidly assimilate new concepts and ideas, and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Must be comfortable working with Microsoft Office and Microstrategy
