Senior Manager, Business Risk Management, Regulatory, Global Wealth Management
Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Business Risk Management, Global Wealth Management in Canada ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
What You’ll Do:
- Champions a client‑focused culture by understanding GWM product offerings, advisor practices, suitability requirements, and the broader Wealth ecosystem, allowing for deeper client relationships and stronger alignment with enterprise capabilities.
- Supports 1st Line Non-Financial Risk Management Programs across GWM, including Privacy, Anti‑Bribery & Anti‑Corruption, Conduct Risk, Conflicts of Interest, and Regulatory Compliance, while considering nuances specific to Wealth businesses such as advisor behaviour, client suitability, fiduciary expectations, and product distribution risks.
- Supports 2nd Line compliance programs, such as the Regulatory & Controls Library, Compliance Risk Control Assessments, Issues Management, and regulatory change management—ensuring Wealth business units can understand, prioritize, and operationalize regulatory requirements impacting advisory practices, product governance, operations, and client servicing.
- Provides ongoing support to GWM business units in identifying, assessing, escalating, and tracking regulatory issues, compliance testing results, audit findings, regulatory exams, and commitments—ensuring timely resolution and sustainable control improvements across platforms such as Wealth Management, Asset Management, Private Banking, and ScotiaMcLeod.
- Contributes to GWM projects and transformation initiatives, analyzing and optimizing internal control models, business processes, and operational structures to strengthen risk mitigation—particularly in areas such as client onboarding, KYC refresh, suitability, trading/supervision workflows, and regulatory reporting.
- Collaborates closely with GWM counterparts to share best practices, break down operational silos, and ensure consistency in risk approaches, policies, and frameworks across the diverse Wealth businesses in Canada.
- Maintains expert-level awareness of Wealth industry trends, regulatory developments (e.g., CIRO, OSC, AMF), market conduct expectations, client‑focused reforms, and evolving investor protection standards—integrating these into day‑to‑day risk practices.
- Applies the Bank’s Risk Appetite and Risk Culture to daily decisions, ensuring balanced consideration of client outcomes, regulatory obligations, operational integrity, and reputational impacts.
- Actively supports efficient and effective operations while ensuring adherence to Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, and ensuring strong controls are in place to meet obligations relating to operational risk, compliance risk, AML/ATF/sanctions, conduct risk, advisor supervision, and client suitability.
- Champions a high‑performance and inclusive culture, fostering collaboration, professional accountability, and continuous improvement within the Wealth risk environment
What You'll Bring:
- University degree and significant related experience in financial services.
- Strong understanding of wealth management businesses, including products, services, operations, systems and practices.
- Strong knowledge of regulations and policies & procedures impacting wealth management businesses.
- Ability to drive success in a high performing, flexible team environment.
- Ability to effectively work with and influence stakeholders to implement initiatives.
- Experience with providing insights to and interacting with the business.
- Excellent communication and writing skills
Work Arrangement:
- Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Limited travel globally.
