Purpose
The Sustainable Finance Group within Global Banking and Markets provides sustainable finance and advisory solutions to corporate, financial, public sector, and institutional clients across the Bank’s global presence, with a focus on the Americas. We work alongside product partners (including debt capital markets, equity capital markets, corporate and investment banking, sales and trading) to provide innovative client solutions for sustainability challenges across all industries, geographies and sectors.
We are seeking to hire an Analyst in Sustainable Finance that will support the Group in working across all major business lines and industries in Global Banking and Markets. The role will directly support the Group in covering clients. The analyst will develop and execute sustainable finance products and transactions, deliver comprehensive advisory solutions to clients, and support in content and thought leadership. The analyst will also lead the management of core internal team functions including database management and data analysis, preparation of client pitch material, and the development of advisory content on key ESG themes. The analyst will have the opportunity to gain experience in capital markets structuring and execution, build a strong understanding of key sustainability risks and opportunities of clients, and work across a wide range of industries, financial products, and teams within the Bank.
Our team is a combination of sustainability and finance experts with specialties that include finance, banking, sciences, ESG research and sustainable finance. We encourage candidates with diverse academic and/or professional backgrounds to apply.
What You’ll Do:
- Provide origination support by creating high quality and accurate pitch materials that reflect sustainable finance trends across products and is tailored to clients
- Maintain detailed databases of sustainable finance transactions, inclusive of data management processes and internal reporting requirements
- Maintain high quality stock materials and presentation templates (e.g. market updates, sectoral insights, regulatory developments) and backup data to ensure accurate materials and insights on the sustainable finance market globally
- Maintain strong, up to date knowledge of global sustainable finance market developments (market trends, financial product development, structuring) and material environmental, social, and governance factors across client sectors and geographies (transition, ESG targets, sustainability reporting, ESG ratings, taxonomies, legislation, ICMA Principles)
- Support the execution of sustainable finance mandates, including green/social/sustainable and sustainability-linked financial products, through framework development, second-party opinion reviews, execution, investor communications, and case studies across a wide range of issuers (corporate and public sector)
- Build and maintain high quality materials and presentation templates on relevant ESG themes, including sector trends, investor/buy side views, recent policy and taxonomy developments, and peer benchmarking for client distribution and presentation
- Support senior team members with idea generation, including new product development opportunities and partnerships
- Provide consistent, insightful thought leadership for clients and internal stakeholders on an ongoing basis, including newsletters, thematic content, market commentary, and conference preparations
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across Scotiabank’s footprint to further support and develop sustainable finance and Scotiabank enterprise initiatives
- Support tracking of Global Banking and Market’s portion of the $350bn climate change commitment by maintaining accurate and descriptive deal repertoire and collaborating with specialists across the bank
What You’ll Bring:
- 1-3 years of relevant professional experience (ESG, sustainability, sustainable finance, environmental consulting, banking, capital markets, asset management, management consulting, or corporate finance)
- Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in sustainability, environmental sciences/studies, finance, business, economics and/or related field
- Highly proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint) and other data management platforms (e.g. PowerBI)
- Experience and knowledge of key trends, themes, and issues related to ESG, sustainability, and sustainable finance
- Experience in ESG data platforms and ratings systems an asset (i.e. Bloomberg Terminal, ESG rating provider portals)
- Experience building client presentations and other deliverables for senior professional, corporate, and/or finance audiences
- Understanding of capital markets and Scotiabank’s key business lines, with a passion for sustainable finance
- Spanish speaking and writing abilities an asset
- Data analysis and data management skills
- Quantitative and qualitative research skills (preferably in sustainability and/or finance-related topics)
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Comfortable working in complex, rapidly evolving environment with tight timelines with strong organizational and time-management skills
- Proactive and ‘can-do’ attitude and strong work ethic along with creativity and problem-solving ability
- Excels in a team environment with the ability to cross-collaborate with varied and multi-stakeholder relationships
Work Arrangement:
This position is an onsite role, with the expectation that you will work 5 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
