Requisition ID: 236135

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

Purpose

The incumbent is responsible for contributing to the ongoing investment success and continuous improvement of the Scotia Private Investment Counsel (PIC) business by combining investment analysis with strategic project management. This hybrid role is designed for a well-rounded professional who can bridge technical investment knowledge with business initiatives, ensuring strong execution of special projects and strategic growth initiatives.

Responsibilities include providing dedicated support across a range of investment management and strategic initiatives, integrating portfolio analytics with cross-functional project execution. Given the hybrid nature of the role—combining technical investment analysis, stakeholder communication, and product management—this position is essential to maintaining continuity and advancing priorities within the PIC business.

Accountabilities

1. Investment Analysis & Support
• Conduct investment research, portfolio reviews/analytics, and assessments by pulling data from various sources (Bloomberg, Morningstar, Thomson One, FactSet) to support portfolio managers and leadership decision-making.
• Contribute to investment selection, performance attribution, and risk/return analysis; deliver insights to the portfolio management team to support competitive positioning and more effective portfolio advice.
• Stay informed on capital markets and industry developments.
• Prepare presentations, reports, and recommendations for senior leadership and internal stakeholders.

2. Strategic Project Management
• Lead and manage cross-functional strategic initiatives, including product launches, investment platform enhancements, and integration projects.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of internal databases; drive insights and develop recommendations for Portfolio Managers.
• Partner with internal teams (Operations, Compliance, Technology, Data Office, Marketing) to ensure timely and effective project delivery.
• Establish project plans, track milestones, and prepare regular progress updates for leadership.
• Participate in ad hoc projects that support efficient service delivery, enhance management reporting, and identify risks, issues, and dependencies—while recommending solutions to keep projects on track.

3. Business Insight & Innovation
• Support the development of strategic initiatives for the PIC business.
• Build business cases, dashboards, and models to evaluate opportunities for revenue growth, efficiency gains, and client experience improvements.
• Actively share knowledge and experience to enhance team development.
• Build effective working relationships with internal and external partners; provide thorough, thoughtful, and accurate responses to inquiries, ensuring proper follow-through on resolutions.

4. Leadership & Collaboration
• Act as a thought partner to the direct manager and senior leaders, providing insights that link investment management with broader business strategy.
• Contribute to the effective functioning of the Private Investment Counsel team.
• Manage and mentor junior analysts, sharing expertise in investment analysis, coding, and communication best practices.
• Support DEI and cultural segment initiatives in alignment with enterprise goals.

Education / Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Mathematics, Business, or a related field (CFA, MBA, or CAIA designation is an asset).
• 5+ years of experience in the investment industry with a strong understanding of financial markets and portfolio management theory, or strategy consulting within financial services.
• Strong ability to explain financial and wealth strategies integrated with firm-wide investment strategies.
• Proven track record in project management, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Strong technical skills: AI and data analysis (Python or SQL); advanced knowledge of Excel and VBA is a strong asset, including experience with database concepts and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to present complex topics clearly to senior leaders.
• Highly organized, self-driven, and capable of working across cross-functional teams, with expert understanding of investment returns and potential risks.
• Deep investment management expertise, including the ability to interpret economic and capital markets data and articulate the firm’s investment strategy to partners and clients.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
