The Team
The Senior Programmer Analyst will be responsible for the development of the Data Composition applications within Canada. The incumbent will influence the technology solution in relationship to architecture, design and development to meet client’s requirements.
The incumbent will contribute to the overall success of the team by ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures are activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

- Assists with the development functions for all projects/clients
- Manage Client Stakeholders for support on existing services as well as new functions as part of project execution
- Provide overnight and weekend support to conduct Production code implementations
- Assists with and contributes to the execution of day-to-day project and task oriented work efforts and meeting customer expectations for contracted time, cost and specification definitions
- Builds and maintains solid, professional working relationships with peers within the business lines
- Meets scheduled milestones to ensure project/program objectives are met in a timely manner, has an in-depth knowledge of the principles, theories, practices and techniques for managing the activities related to planning, managing and implementing software solutions
- Deliver the assigned project to specs within the projected timelines
- Works closely with customers, Business Analysts, and development team members to understand business requirements that drive the analysis and design of quality technical solutions
- Involved in the full systems life cycle and is responsible for coding, testing, implementing, and supporting applications software that is delivered on time and within budget; will also work with application level architects and senior team developers to contribute to the design of the overall solution to meet business needs
- Makes recommendations towards the development of new code or reuse of existing code, and do the code review afterward
- Participation in component and data architecture design, performance monitoring and product evaluation
- Provides front-line application support and coordination when application problems occur, provides production support independently
- Liaisons with external vendors, product users, operations staff, technical support groups and other development teams in all phases of development project activities and production support activities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Participate on an ongoing, active and concurrent basis as technical consultant, informing design, development, coding, testing, and debugging of new / packaged solutions or significant enhancements to existing applications to deliver the best possible application performance
- In an agile environment, develop cost effective and efficient applications to meet business objectives by analyzing user requirements, providing technical specifications and design and developing/maintaining programs according to standards. The incumbent must ensure programs and applications developed meet the high availability, integrity and reliability of the on-line transaction processing environment
- Provide production and user acceptance testing support to assigned applications by identifying, evaluating, escalating, resolving problems and supporting other team members. The incumbent may be required to provide after hours support to ensure systems are operational according to documented user service level agreements.
- An active contributor to the Implementation of new systems or enhancements, establishing and executing system test procedures, developing implementation plans, developing the required program and system documentation and ensuring all functionality has been delivered as required. The incumbent is also required to provide post implementation support to ensure quality delivery
- Keep current on rapidly changing technological trends, self teach new technologies and maintain an understanding of the Division’s business and technology strategies
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- Bachelor in Computer science or equivalent
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in analysis, design and development of digital communication/correspondence applications using HP/OpenText Exstream Design Manager, Designer and related tools; ability to design, develop and debug simple to complex statements/forms/letters in both in High Volume & On-Demand Applications
- Strong working knowledge of HP/OpenText Exstream Communication Server (Setup + Tenancy Concepts), Exstream Content Author, Exstream Communication Builder, Empower, CAS and OTDS
- Experienced in performing the following:
- Mapping complex data structures including XML, JSON and mainframe data formats
- Config language layer, design layer, frame, font, color, encoding, barcode, bin and flow
- Create search keys, TLEs, functions, components, rules, sections, paragraphs, placeholders, messages and advanced/automated table with sections & levels
- Generating output files in different formats like AFP, PDF, Report and HTML files
- Complex implementation involving sorting (presort & postsort) and bundling process
- Working with multiple types of automated archiving and indexing
- Working with OpenText Communications Server and Control center activities
- Working with Exstream real-time/on-demand Web Service
- Experience working with Windows server and Windows CMD, PowerShell and Python Scripting
- Experience with SOAP/REST services and SFTP file transfer protocol
- Ability to provide analysis and design based on business requirements, and translate design specifications into templates/codes for new or enhancement data composition projects
- Ability to work with Print Facility/Vendor to delivery highly optimized AFP files and troubleshoot any implementation issues with render testing and printing
- Experience with Email and HTML templates
- Experience with Autosys, CMOD or other ECM products
- Experience with database skills, including MS-SQLSERVER and write simple to medium SQL queries.
- Knowledge of bank and financial Services domain will be a plus.
