Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Global Human Resources Technology, in globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted follow governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures. Drives the team to succeed in providing Scotiabank with global services focusing on IT Service Management, Employee IT Services and IT Risk and Governance of technology assets.
Accountabilities
- The Quality Assurance Functional Specialist will lead/review testing for GEOF applications/systems- by reviewing and evaluating requirements and design documentation, create, develop and review test strategies and workday estimates, contribute to the preparation of comprehensive test documentation, and participate in daily testing activities. Closely monitor the progress of testing, and evaluate defects raised, balancing the need to mitigate risk with the optimal use of testing resources while adhering to Best Practices, Methodologies, Guiding Principles, Standards and Procedures.
- The Quality Assurance Functional Specialist must work under tight deadlines, conflicting priorities and changing requirements.
- The Quality Assurance Functional Specialist must be able to react quickly to contribute in the resolution of issues, work overtime to meet deadlines and to implement systems with minimal impact to the Business users.
- Assess multiple, overlapping projects with stringent time frames and appraise outstanding issues with the potential of impacting the promotion of initiatives to the Production environment, providing suggestions to minimize associated risks.
- Provide guidance to the testing team and members of the project teams; consisting of analysts with varying degrees of knowledge, provide ongoing support to current initiatives, knowledge transfer and support to individual team members to increase performance.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a stable, professional environment, while ensuring department objectives are understood and met.
- Assist with the coordination of testing activities with other departments and interpret detailed information provided by technical support staff. Participate in forward-planning sessions and identify/resolve conflicts between initiatives.
- Contribute to the successful implementation of solutions for systems and projects, supporting highly complex business applications with complex integration needs across multiple technology disciplines.
- Provide input to the project team to incrementally improve the effectiveness and efficiency of IST.
- Requires limited management direction and handles extremely complex problems.

Dimensions
- Ability to perform and co-ordinate the testing of multiple projects and assignments concurrently.
- Good working knowledge of assigned banking applications and their interfaces.
- Strong knowledge of Agile/traditional/other methodologies, procedures and standards.
- Support QA Testing Management to establish, co-ordinate and ensure a stable environment for conducting QA test.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Support the delivery of applications to the Canadian market and that roll out of those applications will be extended to other markets like Latam, Mexico and the Caribbean region. In doing so, it will be supporting the delivery group within the Enterprise Technology group. In some cases, some of these applications will be use at a corporate level.
- It is expected that the incumbent works independently of releases and projects that ultimately impact over 1200 Domestic branches and locations.
Education / Experience / Other Information
- A bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years work IT experience in delivery and execution, 4+ of which working continuous years’ experience working in Testing area.
- 4+ years’ work experience in delivery and execution, at least 1+ years leading Agile team
- English fluency is a must (B1 or higher)
- Ability to address all project related issues and conflicts within the testing cycle.
- Minimum 3 years of working experience in Regulatory Systems with multiple integration points to various Databases/systems for the data feeds is highly desired.
- 4 years hands-on working experience with Integrated Systems testing and managing testing of business applications.
- Strong English language communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to interact with Senior Management; complete presentations or provide status updates.
- Ability to address all project related issues and conflicts within the testing cycle.
- Proven experience in strategic planning to ensure the delivery of quality applications.
- Working knowledge of, JIRA, and Confluence.
- Knowledge of Project Management principles.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Independent; responsible; accountable; results-driven & a keen eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, yet complicated environment is essential to this position.
- Familiarity with automated testing tools like Quick Test Professional (QTP) & the Oracle Application Testing Suite is an asset.
- Familiarity in systems design (Agile, Waterfall) and a solid understanding of SQL, QA and integration testing methodologies.
- Any testing certification is an asset.
AUTHORITY/ DECISION MAKING/ DIRECTION RECEIVED:
- Day to day decisions regarding approaches to testing are handled independently by the incumbent.
- Incumbent is responsible for most recommendations for strategic resource planning and code delivery.
- High degree of discretion and independent judgment to determine work priorities, allocation of resources and approval of code delivery to UAT and Production.
- Priorities must be constantly evaluated and reorganized daily to provide direction to a large test team.
- Tight project deadlines necessitate arriving at decisions/ recommendations within minutes. Problems encountered can have a major impact on the integrity of projects delivered to the Production environment. Corrective action must be based on an accurate risk analysis.
Recommendations for the resolution of issues with complex implications are presented to senior management.
- Limited direction is provided by the Quality Assurance Functional Senior Manager.
- The incumbent is required to act on behalf of the Director during periods of absence
Working Conditions
Physical Effort
- Long periods of time are spent sitting at a PC using repetitive motions to access keyboard and mouse control. Frequent after hours support interrupts rest periods prior to full daily activities.
Physical Environment
- Incumbent is situated in an office environment where paper and chemical dust, noise and mechanical air circulation are present.
Sensory Attention
- Extensive viewing of video display terminals, daily review of small print computer reports and detailed analytical work is required. Focused concentration is necessary to review and understand detailed technical requirements.
Mental Stress
- Volumes of work will vary with the project/ release schedule and flexibility to meet the workload fluctuation is required. Overtime is often necessary for the incumbent and assigned staff. Problems/ conflicts must be identified and resolved immediately to minimize their impact on tight project deadlines. Incumbent carries a pager to provide afterhours consultation and direction. Assigned activities must be kept current while meeting the demands of a supervisory role.
