Purpose

As a valuable team member in the Internal Control group, employee will contribute to the success of the SBUS control framework by working with the U.S. Businesses in completing Risk and Control Self-Assessments (RCSAs) and in driving risk assessment of new initiatives. The RCSA program is rapidly growing and requiring a motivated self-starter with strong judgment and analytical skills to not only focus on governing documentation, but also the continued execution and oversight of the US RCSA program. Additionally, as the US businesses continue to grow, it is pivotal to link current risk and control levels with potential new initiatives. This hybrid role, assessing both current risk from existing activities and emerging risk from new initiatives, will subsequently require the ability to connect key processes and operational risk frameworks, including but not limited to, new initiatives, business process mapping, operational resilience, etc., across all SBUS businesses and control/support functions (CSF). Experience in operational risk assessment and global markets, as well as a strong interest in process automation, including utilization of business intelligence/automation tools, are strongly preferred.

What You’ll Do

  • Strong non-financial risk, control, and regulatory experience in Capital Markets businesses, ability to effectively communicate with multiple stakeholders aligned to expert level in business/trading, operations, and risk conversations.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the businesses and the three lines of defense, including First Line (FLSS), Second Line (Operational Risk Management), and Internal Audit, to confirm comprehensive and consistent practices are followed to allow for a successful oversight program that proactively manages and assesses operational risk.

  • Review, update, and maintain all related policies and procedures. Ø Regularly create and compile requests from regulators and Internal Audit to facilitate examinations.

  • Contribute to the evolution of the operational risk framework by driving consistency in data point gathering, including Operational Risk Events, Key Risk Indicators, etc., providing subsequent guidance for remediation if deficiencies identified.

  • Deepen experience in the operational aspects and business matters for a subset of SBUS business lines to ensure quality execution of Risk Assessments. Experience could be within any combination of secondary trading, Prime Services, Treasury/Liquidity Management, Corporate Banking, etc.

  • Oversee and execute the design, development, implementation, and execution of the RCSA framework and overall evaluation of operational risk across all SBUS businesses.

  • Assist junior team members in completion of RCSA and other operational risk deliverables. Ø Work with senior leadership as an effective risk manager, in supporting enhancement plans aimed at evolving the RCSA methodology and developing new strategies to advance the program.

  • Establish and maintain an operational risk and control library with change management governance.

  • Work with Tech 1B to understand the operational risk related to key IT systems used by Business, including external vendors, along with their BCP planning, and data risk.

  • Own individual portfolio of work and operate independently to aggregate, analyze, and report on operational risk to senior leaders. This includes preparation of RCSA-related materials for exercises, committees, and working groups

  • Partner with and provide guidance to business lines, technology groups and control and support units to ensure new initiative sponsors assess risks appropriately through the NIA process

  • Coordinate, discuss, and resolve issues with all stakeholders involved in new initiatives to obtain approvals in a timely manner.

  • Attend, discuss and provide regular reporting to GBM Management on the status of NIAs including analyses of inactive and delayed initiatives and recommend appropriate actions.

  • Present new initiatives and provide updates, issues and other details to the New Initiative Working Group and US Non-Financial Risk committee for approvals.

What You’ll Bring

  • University Degree/MBA/CFA or a minimum of 10 years of experience, preferably in capital markets, and experience working on operational risk processes.
  • Expert/good working knowledge of internal controls.
  • Demonstrate significant maturity, credibility and sound judgment in dealing with senior management across business lines, risk management and support groups.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong written and verbal communications and inter-personal skills.
