Why You’ll Love Working at Ross Video:

At Ross Video, you’ll be part of a team energized by innovation, building the cutting-edge technology that powers the world’s most watched live productions and events. Our products are designed to be intuitive, reliable, and to deliver exceptional results—because our customers’ success is everything to us. If you’ve ever watched live television, breaking news, major sports, or a Hollywood award show, you’ve seen our technology in action. Join us behind the scenes and help make unforgettable live moments possible.

The Senior FPGA/Hardware Developer role will utilize the latest FPGA and SoC devices to provide predominantly SDI-based transport solutions over leading-edge hardware platforms that power live video production. As a member of the Hyperconverged Solutions R&D team, you will further advance the Ross industry-leading A/V infrastructure products including Ultrix, the ultimate hyperconverged platform. Successful candidates will have serious technical chops to pair with a “find a way” attitude to harness the full power of themselves and their teammates in solving unique and challenging technical problems in a supportive, high-energy, and dynamic work environment.

What The Job Is All About:

  • Architect, design, simulate and test leading edge FPGA & HW solutions for Video market
  • Develop high-level design requirements, participate in key part (FPGA) selection, and support aggressive project scheduling
  • Develop schematics and support detailed board layout for designs (frequently contributing directly to technical decisions relating to signal integrity, density, fabrication constraints, and thermal considerations)
  • Work with other members of the team to verify the functionality of the FPGA & HW
  • Thoroughly self-test all designs and support PV (aka QA) throughout development – this includes reviewing test plans to align focus, validating feedback, and debugging/fixing hardware problems as required
  • Generate both specification & design documentation to support cross functional aspects of the NPI process
  • Assist in supporting other staff members as necessary through entire NPI process flow – including design, documentation, test, presales and customer service

Who You Are:

  • Senior level HW & FPGA design knowledge and experience across a broad range of topics including:
  • Video (SMPTE-SDI, proprietary Video IP cores) and Audio (AES, MADI, etc)
  • Logic building blocks & system architectures
  • High speed transceivers, clock domain analysis, & timing closure
  • SoC Design integration
  • Deep knowledge of FPGA architectures, speed/area tradeoffs, high-speed transceivers, clock domain analysis, timing closure, and SoC platforms.
  • Fluent in development languages and schematic capture used in HW design - VHDL and/or Verilog (preferred)
  • AI ‑ supported engineering efficiency: Practical experience using AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) with well ‑ structured prompts to support FPGA and hardware development activities including design exploration, HDL review, debugging assistance, verification planning, scripting, internal tool development, system monitoring solutions, and technical documentation, with appropriate validation and engineering oversight.
  • Cursor for FPGA development: Working experience using Cursor to navigate and maintain large VHDL/Verilog codebases, assist with code review and refactoring, develop testbench concepts, and improve development efficiency, tooling workflows, and overall code comprehension.
  • Expertise in current Xilinx & Altera devices and associated design and debugging tools
  • Experience with designing large FPGA designs with high-speed hardware interfaces in an FPGA environment such as UHD-SDI, gigabit transceivers, DDR3/4 interfaces, source synchronous parallel busses and PLL’s
  • Proficiency in general circuit principles, power supply design, uP design, and signal conditioning
  • Strong debugging skills & proficient with typical lab equipment (scopes, JBERTs, network analyzers, WFMs, etc)
  • Ability to accurately estimate task and project durations
  • Knowledge of software languages such as C, C++, Java, and other design languages a plus
  • Strong Windows computer skills; especially Excel & Visio - VBA scripting knowledge a plus
  • Knowledge of broadcast studio applications & workflow preferred; especially router / distribution systems a plus
