Job Overview:

Working under the guidance of the Manager, Creative Services – Labs, the Production Specialist – Creative Services will support the conception, execution, testing, and on-site operation of experimental and production-ready workflows in live broadcast environments.

Ross Video’s Creative Services Labs is a newly established team operating at the intersection of Live Production and Rapid Innovation. The lab’s mission is to prototype, test, and deliver next-generation tools that enhance storytelling through cutting-edge technology.

This role is for a hands-on production expert who supports real-show needs by assisting in testing, setup, and operation of production workflows during internal and customer projects. The Production Specialist will partner with and provide operational feedback to software developers to share production insights that help refine workflows and support demo-ready experiences.

Who you report to: Manager, Creative Services - Labs

What we offer:

Ross offers competitive salaries, comprehensive health plans, and several perks to help you perform at your best. Some of these perks include flexible hours, generous paid time off, fitness/wellness allowance, an employee share ownership program, development support, and a ton of fun social activities and events! Best of all, you will be part of the Ross Video family, and we've got an energizing environment here.

What the job is all about:

  • Support on-site and remote productions, including setup, rehearsals, show execution, and teardown, ensuring operational readiness and reliability.
  • Operate or assist with operation of live production systems and workflows as required (switching, routing, replay, graphics, audio, intercom, or control room coordination depending on project needs).
  • Assist in troubleshooting production issues and escalate complex problems to senior team members. Provide technical support during production windows and assist with customer-facing demonstrations.
  • Translate real production needs into clear workflow requirements and test plans for rapid prototypes and pilots.
  • Collaborate with the software development team to define user stories, success criteria, edge cases, and operator experience.
  • Participate in testing prototypes in controlled or guided environments and provide usability feedback: latency, timing, redundancy, failure modes, and operational ergonomics.
  • Identify limitations and risks early; propose practical mitigations and “show-safe” fallback plans.
  • Assist in configuration and integration of Ross and third-party systems as required for demos and pilots (signal flow, device control, networking, timing, and I/O).
  • Assist with setup and verification of media pipelines and contribution/distribution paths for video, audio, and data.
  • Support integration of real-time data sources (APIs, feeds, scoring, elections, weather, stats, etc.) into production workflows and graphics systems.
  • Work with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure technical requirements are captured and satisfied.
  • Create and maintain operational documentation: run-of-show guides, wiring/network diagrams, setup checklists, and troubleshooting playbooks.
  • Package learnings from pilots into repeatable “demo kits” and best practices that can be used by other teams.
  • Interface with Rocket Surgery project management and scheduling to optimize onsite deployment and operations for cost control and customer success. Utilize provided online and mobile tools to facilitate successful project management and revenue recognition.
  • Support preparation of documentation and occasionally assist in sharing workflow information with internal teams.
  • Contribute ideas for Rocket Labs experiments based on real production friction points and operator opportunities.
  • Support creation of demo content and narratives that communicate value clearly (what it does, why it matters, how it fits into a show).
  • Participate in trade shows, customer visits, and internal showcases as needed.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Video Production or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in live production environments (broadcast, sports, news, entertainment, streaming, or events).
  • Deep understanding of control room workflows and operational priorities (timing, reliability, redundancy, communication, change control).
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot across video/audio/network/control layers under time pressure.
  • Comfort working with technical systems and configurations (device setup, networking basics, signal flow, timing).
  • Strong collaboration skills—able to work tightly with developers, communicate requirements, and validate results.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills (able to produce checklists, runbooks, and clear setup instructions).
  • Willingness and ability to travel worldwide up to 35% % depending on department needs.
  • Adheres to Ross Video’s Code of Ethics and Culture Statements.
