Your tasks
- Reporting to the Engineering Manager, manage the entire systems engineering lifecycle of the naval communications project, including design, development, testing, and deployment.
- In conjunction with the Engineering Manager, lead a team of engineers in the development of advanced communication systems for naval vessels, including satellite and radio communications.
- Be accountable and ensure that required engineering products and activities are produced in accordance with the approved procedures, within the allocated budgets and meet or exceed quality standards.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, quality assurance, and operations, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of the communication systems.
- Manage risk, identify potential issues, and develop mitigation plans to ensure successful project completion.
- Work closely with the customer to understand their needs and requirements, and to provide regular updates on project progress.
- In conjunction with the Engineering Manager, foster a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement within the project engineering team.
- Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with the company's business objectives and goals.
- Communicate effectively with senior management and stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress, issues, and risks.
- Participate in tender support activities.

Your qualifications
- Skills and attributes
- Proven background in engineering management preferably in a defence engineering environment.
- Good understanding of systems engineering and engineering processes and tools.
- Can lead, mentor and develop good engineering practices within the project engineering team.
- Have significant experience successfully managing a engineering or related technical team.
- Structured approach to engineering management and problem solving.
- Advanced communications skills.
- Demonstrated accountability and commitment.
- Personal agility by adapting flexibly to new situations, pursuing new paths and learning from mistakes.

- High standard of work quality. Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in engineering, with at least 5 years in a management role, preferably in the naval communications industry.
- Strong technical background in communications engineering, including experience with advanced communication systems, such as satellite and radio communications.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering complex engineering projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent leadership and management skills, with experience managing and mentoring engineering teams.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations, including military standards for communications systems.
- Must be an Australian Citizen and be eligible to obtain Australian Security Clearance.
- Eligible to access/handle export-controlled technology, data, and information.
- Eligible to apply and obtain registration with the National Engineering Register (NER).
