The Labour Specialist plays an important role in supporting leaders and HR teams across the organization in managing labour and employee relations matters. Reporting to the Director, HR, this role provides hands-on support in grievance resolution, collective agreement interpretation, leadership training and case management for labour files. The successful candidate will contribute to fostering a consistent, fair, and legally compliant workplace culture while helping drive organizational performance.
What you'll do:
- Support collective agreement negotiations, interpretation, and application.
- Attend bargaining sessions as a researcher and recorder and contribute to strategy development.
- Track grievances, arbitrations, and dispute resolution activities; analyze data to inform risk mitigation and labour relations strategies.
- Process arbitration cases including file preparation, gathering and reviewing evidence, identifying and preparing witnesses, liaising with and responding to legal counsel and attending hearings as the company representative
- Track case law and emerging labour relations trends to help shape the labour relations strategies
- Conduct comparative analysis of collective agreements and market data.
- Administer compensation cycles for multiple collective agreements.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex labour-related issues.
- Provide support in crafting and implementing proactive employee relations strategies and training initiatives.
- Conduct audits, research assignments, and generate reports as needed.
- Participate in Labour Management meetings.
What you'll bring:
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related discipline; a degree or diploma is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, including at least 3 years in labour relations within a unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of Federal Employment Legislation and collective agreement frameworks.
- Exceptional communication skill, verbal and written.
- Proven ability to build relationships, influence change, and navigate sensitive situations.
- Proven experience in resolution and management of grievances up to and including arbitration
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational and interpretation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with minimal supervision
- Self-starter with strong initiative, action oriented with a sense of urgency to get things completed
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
